What's this noise under hard cornering?
I've had my car back for about 3 wks now and it seems to drive better than ever. I like to really whip around this corner by my house, to which I moved AFTER I wrecked my 993. So I had not driven it there previously and had never noticed this noise. In a very hard and fast left turn - as in hard enough for the rear end to start breaking loose - I hear this whine. It sounds almost exactly like when my mom used to drive her old VW Rabbit cab in reverse up our driveway. You know, that reeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhh sound? Can I be less specific? Anyway, I need to look on my code sticker to see if I have LSD. But could this noise be my LSD or its failing? Otherwise, tranny is smooth as silk and makes no noise.

I've never heard your mum's old Rabbit... However, the most common source of unpleasant noise while cornering is the lack of sufficient power steering fluid. There are plenty of threads on this in the archives. Have you checked the fluid level?

No, I did not whack any of my wheels. My left muffler got pushed into my left rear tire slightly, but no wheel damage. I didn't think 993's were old enough to have wheel bearing issues. I just replaced them on my '83 SC a few weeks ago, so I figured the 993 had a few years in the bearings. I'll jack it up tomorrow and wiggle the wheels. Will also check fluid. So far no one is suggesting LSD issues?

I had a bad thumping noise from my right rear on hard lefts on my '93 and the right rear bearing was toast....just had it replaced. It sounded more like a tire was out of balance though only making a sound every revolution, more like a thunk, thunk, etc.

Nope. This is a whine. I had a catastrophic wheel bearing failire on my SC and I know what they sound like. Pretty sure this is not it.

Gert is certainly including wheel bearing into the bump steer conversion kit http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p93013.htm even though they are not needed(they are the same as regular 993). I guess that is a preventive measure and indication that wheel bearings do go out on 993...
