Default Bent alternator shaft

I had the alternator belt fail yesterday, and to cut a long story short, the alternator shaft is bent, no doubt helping bring on the failure early. I searched the archives and found one or two mentions of a belt shaft in there.

Once the fan belt is off too, so that the alternator can be spun by hand, it's easy to see the fan wobble off true, so there's no question that the shaft is bent.

Does anyone else have experience of this failure? Is it common?

Default bent shaft

before you go buy another alt the bearing in the fan could be bad. try turning just the shaft and not the fan ( hold the fan ) and see if it turns true. i doubt that the shaft is bent.

I was breaking belts regularly for about two weeks last year - Turned out to be a bent alternator shaft. I had the bearing replaced prior to this happening, and still can't quite figure out how the shaft got bent. Did you by any chance have your alternator bearing replaced recently? I'm thinking that maybe the shaft can be bent at some point during this procedure...

An overtightened belt cause cause the shaft to bend.
