Default Anyone else been playing GT4 much?

I had a chance to play it today in a Best Buy and chose a Ruf (naturally) since Porsches are not represented in GT4. I ended up picking a RGT to drive on Laguna Seca and was really surprised to see how much the car understeered (a lot). Since the claim to fame is how realistic the simulation is, this was quite a bummer. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? The quick session I tried on Forza was quite different as I was able to drift a GT3 through Turn 3 and 4

I know this is not really on topic but I haven't been driving my car much and it's in the shop right now for some suspension fixes... Trying to get a fix somehow

I've played GT4 a lot. Great game. The reason for the understeer (all cars in GT4 do it) is that it has "control settings" to help. You can change these to give the car a more realistic driving experence. But just like in real life if you don't have the skill it is hard to go fast smooth. Haven't played forza yet but heard it is cool as well.

I've played GT4 a lot and so far done a 7:50 lap of the Nürburgring in a BTR without any helps and no suspension tweaks. Changing the suspension setting does a lot to the handling.

I agree with sweanders, change the suspension settings and that will get rid of the steering problems. I love GT4. I'm about 50% done with the game

I'm not familiar with these games. Are they like the simulators where you are actually sitting in a seat with a full size steering wheel? I want to lease a game like this to put in my basement. I have never been worth a flip at the driving games designed for standing operation and just hand controls. However for those who remember that far back, I was awesome at a game called Defender. Of course I owned a video game business at the time and always kept a few at the house. I was never a fanatic though.

Randy,

Grand Turissimo 4 can run as a simple computer game to a full simulation set up with race seats, steering wheels, three pedals, wide screen and a surround sound system. The track loactions and car-exhaust sounds are as authantic as they get. Great fun.

However, major disclaimer here, I have never played that game, nor any other computer games (except PONG ) so take what I said with a grain of salt.

Enjoy.

I've been playing a little bit. My brother in law has the PS2 and brings it over. I should say that I'm not very good at playing it without a wheel. The standard PS2 controllers aren't very useful for GT4!

Pong. Pong, that was great game. Still is, even in its advanced years.
Anyone know of a company from whom I could lease one of the sit down types?

The game is awesome but the engine sounds are not super.

And hey, somebody needs to bring some 993 material into this thread:

Too bad there isn't a 993 in GT4! (OK, 993 content added)

Seriously, you guys made me go dig out my old GT3 and wheel for some fun. My son is old enough now that when our upcoming move is completed, we'll get GT4 and a second wheel and then it's game on!! He whups me in the other games, but I'll smoke him in this one...for a while anyway.

The real fun would be to get a few people together with a USB hub and have some head-to-head racing! (The Instant G guys (you find them on the 911 board...they mostly do 3.6 conversions for older cars) have done this a few times, according to their web site...looks fun)

I have been playing GT3 for weeks and picked up Forza yesterday. The music and the sound are not that great. More annoyingly, the car physics is questionable. I have only played in arcade mode so maybe that's the issue?

Forza is good, but gotta get into the career for sure. Gotta get rid of the Trac Control and Stab. Management Control. They both suck. ABS is okay to leave on, helpful to me. It's a great game, if you have Xbox Live send me a Friends Invite to "Serial SC".

Ok, I hate to contribute to an OT thread, but for the life of me I can't dial out the understeer on my cars in GT4. I've been going by what you would do in real life, and it just doesn't want to quit pushing. While this thread is here, I'll ask: What do you do to get rid of the understeer? Some of the explanations on suspension parts in GT4 were a little questionable, so I don't know how accurate the dynamics are. Thanks
