Default Advice on a '97 993 Cab

Gents,
I'm looking for advice on what to look for as far problems (potential)
with this model/year. The car is a 1997 993 Cab, 52K miles, owner has all records. I have very little experience with this model year. Any information is much appreciated!

These are not specific to the 1997 - there are no issues specific to the '97. But this thread should give you some ideas about 993 issues:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/198987-buying-new-993-questions.html

1995 has some differences (no varioram, less HP, no OBDII to throw SAI codes that trigger CEL) 1996-98 are all the same mechanically speaking.

Enjoy your search. Hope the above thread helps.

Gents,
Additional info, The place that services this car is Red Line Automotive in Santa Monica. If the records are correct, should I still have a PPI done? Should I use Red Line for this?

I would always get a PPI done before you buy the car, and I recommend that you use a differn't shop to get a PPI done, as second set of eyes always see something differn't.

Good Luck!

Yes, you should have a PPI done, and No, you should not have the shop who services the car do it [after all, why would they now find problems with a car that they have been servicing?!?]. Being out in California you have a ton of Porsche guys to look at it--I'm sure you could get a rennlister to go peek at it for you and see if they notice any obvious problems, and they can recommend a shop that you can take it to for the PPI [I think ViperBob is in Cali, but not sure where--if he is close he is a great resource to the board]

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I would have a PPI done at a different shop. Depending upon where you live, there are a few options. TRE in North Hollywood did a PPi for me (Tyson was my tech, who I liked alot). Lots of Rennlisters also swear by Callas Rennsport in Torrance.

Make sure you understand the routine maintenance needs (60k coming up, brakes, shocks, clutch) and budget accordingly. Check out condition of the top as these are not cheap to replace.

I bought a car very similar to the one you are looking at about eight months ago (97 arctic silver cab with 52k miles) so if you want some info on my purchase, PM me.

Good luck.
