A sad start to the rumble

This has deteriorated into a complete joke. It is not even worth further reading. A sideshow. Don't know whose idea it was to ban Fred but, come on! For language?! Under the circumstances Jim so eloquently laid out? Was it an action to set some kind of high minded or PC protocol? Was anything written that was something members' are offended by? Shocked by? Any worse than Grid Girls (which I love BTW)?
Come on folks. Juvinile call. As administrators, where you see the thread may be taking on a less than favorable quality or compromising the integrity of this board, or the way you want this board to be perceived, just lock it. Close it. Send it to cyberspace. You have done this in the past quite effectively. But seriously, to ban someone who is truly "one of our own" in the truest sense of the word, someone who has helped to build the Rennslist community far and wide here is So. Cal., is absolutely ludicrous. It is an insult to all of us.
For naughty language no less? P u h . . . l e a s e !!!!

I agree completely with Jim. I don't want to go so far as state "I'm out of here too" but for Small (an individual of the lowest common denominator that adds nothing of value to this site) to make the comments he made and not have consequences while Fred (someone that has contributed innumerable times to the common knowledge and to the members) gets banned, makes me feel as if the priorities of this forum have somehow gotten messed up.
I hope to see an equitable resolution to the situation with Fred and hope to see Paul and Alan back on this forum. We are all better off with their presence on this board.

More like a sad end to the Rumble with all this crap!
Come on people, where in this together, a big family with some disagreements. Bottom line is, where all in the same family so let's work this out and move on. I really hate to see folks like Paul wanting to take a vacation. These family gatherings are something to look forward to, not avoid.
Can I get a group hug......okay just kidding on that one, but I do think those with heightened anger need to hug their cars, wives, dogs, cats or whatever and take a chill pill.

It's hard for everyone to get along when the punishment isn't fairly dished out. This reminds me of when I was growing up with two brothers. They would goad me on until I couldn't take it anymore and I'd lash back. Of course, then I'd be the one that got punished while they were in the yard laughing their little asses off. IMHO it's the same thing here, except it's not Mom and Dad it's the moderator who jumped the gun and didn't look at the whole picture and instead of my brothers, it's two or three grown men standing in the shadows of cyberspace laughing their big asses off.
Very sad indeed.........

My car was still in the shop. I drove 7 hours r.t. on a not so fun freeway, in my wife's E420 just to spend 3 hours with these folks. I have previously driven 14 hours r.t. just to join Fred's SoCal group for a 2 hour fun run - twice. I live to drove my car, and sometimes I mek tipose when I post.
As was my experience professionally for groups of up to 2500, all but one or two whiners appreciate the work it takes to organize the drive and meal. They would like to see real photography talent provided to all for nothing, and don't appreciate the time and equipment it takes to respond to a simple request for a copy of a picture. So they get jealous when some people pay a modest sum voluntarily for a favorite pic of their $50K or so investment. Any of you who have taken family gathering pics know this. Sometimes professional work gets ripped off and repackaged for profit. Hence the need for labeling.
Pretty soon the whiners push a few buttons. The people who are tired from doing the work to provide this entertainment to all - with the pics that make it so interesting -ask themselves if it is worth it and respond by

I had a beautiful silver 97 c2s that I sold due to my stupidity. But I still come to hang on the 993 board b/c of all the great ppl here. It really hurts to see how a great community deteriorates to this. I am sure that there’s always something on the board for everyone. Heck I don’t even have a 993 anymore and I am here.
With regard to BAR drive: I have been to 85% of all the drives in the past. These are “spirited” drives, but for the most part it’s just that. We don’t do life threatening stupid stunts like many other groups I have been in before. Yes, we may exceed speed limit on the FWY. I personally would do 80mph or sometimes 85mph in a 70mph zone. But on the twisty, I slow way down. Those who have been to these drives will know that often times we are blocked by RV’s moving at 15mph on one lane (each direction) twisties. However, the lead car never tailgates or passes when there are solid lines in the middle of the road. Most of the time the RV’s will pull aside and courteously wave us by or on rare occasions, we will pass on dotted lines when the road straightens out with great visibility. I don’t think this type of driving is out of line for a sports car and I seriously doubt that most of us can follow the 70mph posted limit on fwys (some do, but most don’t). Despite being careful, **** happens such as Tony and CP’s unfortunate accident or getting ticketed by cops. I got one on my way home from BAR drive going 7mph on PCH. Now is that really reckless?
With regard to the pix: most bar drive or any other drives will end up with pix on a thread. This particular event had a lot more pix than any other threads. But that’s b/c this wasn’t just one of the short drives taking ½ day. It’s a well planned event that included family members and staying over the night for some. As such, the participants expects more pix. Sure, alan can put them on his website, but then as someone else mentioned, there will be no comments from on participant to another on the pix. That seems to take the fun out of it, no? plus, if one doesn’t want to see the pix, you can just ignore the thread after the first few pix?
With regard to technical contents of 993 board: I noticed that too. There are more technical stuff on the 996gt3 board nowadays. However, there are still A LOT of knowledgeable ppl on 993 board such as Phil, Steve Weiner, WMO, Danny Greg Fishman and many others I can’t remember right now. If one has a technical question, just post and one of the 993 guru’s will quickly help out.

As the thread starter, and instigator of all of our rumbles (and again thanks to JR for picking up the work when I couldn't manage it), I need to express my disappointment with the few detractors who have turned this thread into a sorry mess. I so look forward to browsing Rennlist, sometimes for some tech tips, more often for the spirit and friendship I find here. This is so often an inspiring place to meet people and swap stories. We find Rennlisters treating each other like family and knocking themselves out to do favors for each other. I've had several nice things done for me by Rennlisters, and I've likewise gone to some trouble to help a Rennlister in need. We've seen Rennlisters giving parts away to their "brothers" when they could have easily sold them. This truely is what Rennlist is all about.
Its time to stop the nit-picking and hostility. Its time to take a step back and think for a moment about the common good and how you can each promote a positive attitude. We have a wonderful forum, and there's plenty of room for "who's got the most beautiful 993" threads as well as "how can I adjust the cam timing" threads. Really.

Whew! It's cold out there. It's nice to be back where it's warm. I'm very glad to be allowed back. Thanks to whomever I should thank for allowing me back and for putting my offending post back on page 19 back in the thread. Now if we can only get those pesky pics back all would be right with the world.
Thanks to all of you for your kind words here and via email and PM. The mean more to me than you can ever know.

Ohhh, I've already said thanks to Fred and John (JRG) for their instrumental role in this last Rumble. But I most notably forgot to thank Steve (OFE). Steve, it was an inspired thought for you to come up with it last year, and so glad you raised the point again for this year. Thanks! My wife and I had a blast, and it is always a pleasure seeing and driving with you again!
And to Alan, I witnessed firsthand that itchy shutter finger of yours. Not only was it good seeing you again, but thanks for sharing!
