Default Rear Seat Delete Option

This seems like a relatively rare option. I would like to switch my useless rear seats to this option. Does anybody know if someone makes a conversion kit? Does anybody have a rear seat delete and want a set of black leather seats instead?

Thanks. Michael

I think LA Porsche Dismantlers has the rear storage compartments. For what its worth, they are very heavy. Also, I can say from personal experience that adding seats to a rear seat delete car is not easy.

I got mine from LAPD...it was not well stored so I got it for a decent price but had to recarpet it and I also replaced the vinyl door covering with leather. Greg is right, it is heavy as it is made of plywood. Except for the door fittings (are these available from a dealer?) once I saw the underside I could have fabricate one of these (I made one for my Toyota Celica when I was in high school).

The plywood section could easily be replicated if you could find the doors. I always though it would be cool if someone could make one out of carbon fiber as the plywood is heavy but having the shelf is handy.

David:

I have to say your car is awesome looking. Thanks for posting the pictures. I thought about creating my own rear seat delete package, but there is something to be said for the factory package. Carbon fiber would be pretty expensive, but I wonder is say 1/4" aluminum sheet would not work as well, and still be lighter than plywood. Hmm, maybe I will look into have a small batch of kits made up.

The whole thing weighs 22 pounds. You can buy the doors, center cover, locks, etc. from Porsche but what they don't sell is the metal frame that the doors and plywood bolt onto. The metal comes with the wood. The plywood is 1" thick and needs to be to line up with the rear section of the car or it will look odd. So I don't know if a thin flat piece of CF would work that well, you might be better off using balsawood and CF? I have some NidaCore (plastic honeycomb) that I might try as a replacement.

Default Rear Seat Delete kit weighs less than Cab rear seats

I replaced my rears seats with a rear seat delete kit. I purchased it from a recycler and had to re-carpet and re-leather to match my 993. This was not that difficult. The rear seat back on the cabrio is a very heavy structure...much heavier than the delete kit. I don't know what the coupe rear seat parts weigh.

How much should I expect to pay for something like this?

The previous owner of my car paid $2700!!!

I think he got ripped of.

I've heard of them going for around $7-800.

If you do end up buying one just be aware that there is a different "rear luggage dump" for cabriolet and RS models. The RS version usually won't have a lock or alarm hookup on the two doors although it is real simple to add them.

Do you have the part number for the regular package shelf or the RS/Cab 'luggage dump'?

TIA
