"I joined this board hoping there are people like you making sure we are safe and responsible drivers. "

You need to become a paying dues member and then you can come and bore us with your ironic remarks and ricey links...until then...grow up or let your son drive. It seems that he has more sense than you.

Forgive me if I don't believe you (unless that was humour and I missed it?)

Even if it was the 35th anniversary edition Camaro SS (the last made afaik) it has a LOWER power to weight ratio than a 993..

993 C2 power to weight: 0.22 bhp / kg
(see http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame...php&carnum=823)

Camaro SS power to weight: 0.2 bhp / kg
(see http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame...php&carnum=879)

Graham's analysis is consistent with my personal experience.

what is so upsetting about discussing a topic such as this all cars are tested quarter mile some quicker then others porsche can not dominate all areas no matter how much you love your car off

Yah, perhaps ... but which car looks better and has tested style?

AS my better half remiinded me, offer most of those drivers a choice to have a Camaro or a 993, which would they choose?
I am also trully amazed how much selfrighteousness and posturing these 2 vs. threads have brought to the surface.
I have been around cars all my life-grew up on a used car lot. I've had a few hot rods, Z/28's, Corvettes, and if my memory serves correctly, 8 or 9 911's. The one thing they all had in common was driving.
I bought my 993 because it has character, paneche-its cool ! But most of all I got it to drive. Yes, and occasionally to go very fast and race if a relatively safe or convenient opportunity presented itself. And I'm fairly certain these reasons apply to most of the rest of you.
Thats why we dreamed porsches, thats why we drive them, thats what they were made for. Others may be quicker, but they just aren't a Porsche!

Talking sorry boys and girls...

but the 993 Cabrio weighs over 3,200 Lbs and has 282 HP...its not quarter mile king. And besides, one good launch or two and you could be replacing the tranny.

If you want to do drag race stuff, get a 993TT...they absolutely scream...and you be screaming too when you get to about 180 mph...not to worry, the Camaro and Rice Burner will not be in your rear view after about the first mile...they probably will have blown up by them, IMHO.

Get ur dun!

I don't get the whole riceburner thing - but let's cut them some slack.

Young people have always been tuning their cars, drag racing in the streets, dressing differently than some of us older types, listening to abominable music etc etc. The cars used to be Detroit muscle, or small/light European whatever... Today its cheap Japanese powered by Intel/Motorola... in the past, these kids grew up to be car guys, and I am sure the current NOPI tuners will too.

From a dead start, yep, from a "street start", whole different story.

I have beaten newer SS, Saleen SC281, C5 etc, and if you read some posts on the 944 T thread, you will read even more lkike that.

Many Porsche's, especially turbo models, suck of the line, but can hang with much higher end cars in street 40-100, 60-100 etc. Do a 60-100 time test in your car, I bet you it will be in the same realm as F40 and the likes.

What I don't get is how many 993/996 etc have super low 0-60, but not very impressive 1/4 mile??

IIRC, the 993 AWD TT had a 0-60 of like 3.5? but a 1/4 of 12.9. I really doubt the NEON SRT could put up a 3.5 0-60, but yet it will beat the 993TT in the 1/4, especially with the top end of ALL Porsches being considerable.

Are they that slow in the mid range????

Excellent info Graham. I use that same approach when my "muscle car" buddies try to start slamming my car.

They get real quiet when I show them that most Porshe models, especialy with a few light mods, make 100 per liter. IN my case over 100 per liter. Then I ask them to shut their pie holes till their 5/5.7 Liter is making 500+ hp AND a daily driver.

They usally quiet down after that

993-CT: Right on!! It's the kids of today that are pushing the envelope and looking outside the box they will trickle down to the rest of the car markets down the road, just like generations before them, before us, etc.

10 years ago if you said a 4cyl was gonna make 1,000 hp, we would have laughed our asses off. Guess what, they are doing that now
