Afaik, the car was registered as a normal road vehicle in the state of Alabama, USA.

Joachim Großmann also managed to road-register a 917 in Germany.

How about the 908? It was extremely light and did perform better than the 917 in some endurance races were they were both raced. I am having trouble finding info if one has ever been road registered. But if one can register a 917 it should be possible with a 908 as well.

Bwahahaha...

The 908 is not faster or road legal, sorry, and race results is a completely separate issue, depending on factors such as reliability, driver ability, etc.

Well, performance can be measured in many ways, for example how long time it takes to cover a distance. I think that a 1000 km race is more interesting than a quarter mile or standing kilometer. And with the power to weight ratio of the 908 it has proven to give the 917 a race for it's money.

Regarding street legality, I would say that the 917's pictured most likely are not in the factory specification and has been modified to be registered. So in that case we are both wrong and Adrian would be correct.

I think it's safe to say that we are discussing acceleration and top speed when answering the original question.

The 917 given to Count Rossi by Porsche as a gift was delivered in road legal form.

I guess when the original definition can be debated to the point of no one caring anymore...then there are no winners. It is beginning to sound like a bunch of lawyers fighting over a class-action case here....

I am still looking for a 917 with a V8 that was raced
All I can find is;
12 cylinder normally aspirated.
12 cylinder Turbo.
16 cylinder.
No V8 yet in the racing specifications.
Oh yes I have also discovered that 917s were built by a wide variety of companies not just Porsche Motorsports. There was even one designed and built in Austria
Ciao,
Adrian.

Default Fastest NA Porsche

Ok well apparently i was digging up ancient fossils when i found this thread but if anybody is still on here i would love to talk more and was curious if the 917k if not road legal was it the fastest air cooled NA Porsche ever or was there a faster race car and fastest air-cooled NA V8? Also just out of curiosity what was the fastest 0-60 air-cooled turbo v8 porsche ever made? New to air cooled porsche ownership and would love to find more people into them.
Regards,
Robert

p.s. If i dont recieve any reaponses due to this being an outdated time capsule thread and somebody could tell me a new forum we are using, my email is PEvans47@aol.com please let me know lol thanks in advance
