Question 993 vs. Lotus Elise?

I really like the performance of the Elise, as well as the price. The only thing I am unsure of is the size... it is SO small.

Was thinking about getting rid of my '95 993 C2 coupe for one, but not sure if I would regret it... The car would only be used for fun on the weekends, not a daily driver (my 993 has only 16k miles).

Would love to hear your thoughts about the swap, as well as if the Elise is a worthy replacement. No problems whatsoever with the current car, just itching for something new (maybe wait for the new Porsche Cayman S, or just get a new 911? Any other suggestions?). Please help!

Thanks.

Are you ever going to take the car to the track? If so, which would you rather be in if something unfortunate were to happen? I love the Elise look, and performance, but am a little concerned about impact safety, as well as longevity. 993s are bricks
I have long considered the same thing.

No doubt about it, but the Elise is the superior track car for driver feel. It is also a much cheaper car to maintain if used regularly on the track. But it is not really practical for day-to-day living. If you only have one car, go with the 993. They are totally different cars.

I use to own a 98 C4S that has been tracked a lot. I also use to have a Lotus Elise motorsport and now an 05 Elise.

The C4S is heavier, larger, more confortable. The Elise is tiny, not practical (no trunk, very hard to get in and out of) but nimble and tossable. Once the VVT kicks in above 6000rpm, the torque is impressive but you really have to drive it hard all the time, which I have to admit is kind of fun.

In my opinion, and if I had to own only one, I'll go for the C4S. Now if you want a 2nd toy street car that can also be driven to the track the Elise is a great choice.

I rode in an Elise on the track this last Monday. The local Ducati dealer also sells these cars. I attended a Ducati track day and the owner of the dealership was flogging an Elise on the track at lunch time. The car was so fast and nimble around the corners it was ridiculous. Very small inside too. I would have loved to drive the car. By just riding in the car around the track one time I could tell that it is one of the very best track cars that you could buy.

993: great car
elise: great toy
one doesn't replace the other.
elise is more of a driver's car, quicker, more agile, communicates better than 993. but elise is a toy, carries about two grocery bags and takes 10 min. to get in the car , but oh is it fun.

There is a company in Calif that is now doing Turbo mods on the Elise - 2 different packages for (275hp or 400hp). Supposed to work really well - see the links below...

My son would like to have an Elise too. He showed me a web site where they put Honda engines in the Elise (also supercharged) to make them into rockets!!!!!!!!

My friend has a Chrome Yellow Elise. They make no sense to me but some Rennlisters can blow that cash and not think twice. What turns me on is a car that can multi-task like me.

IF I was given the green light on a tool that focused then my better 2/3s just said ok to a motorcycle. I'd be all over a Ducati 749S like a rat to a Cheeto.

well guys.. I was lucky enough to have someone allow me to take their elise around the track at blackhawk (except it was one of the original 95 models NOT street legal and modified for track with better suspension, track tires, etc.)

Anyway... after taking that around the track 5 laps, the 993 felt like a heavy slug..

That elise is just a dream to drive on the track... but I don't know how it would compare to the street version now considering the one I drove was only 1400 pounds... and I think the street one FS now is closer to 1900 pounds (or more)

British Made....fuget.it about it
My opinion, I will buy an Elise...soon, as soon as they start making them in Germany.
Remember guys, we bomed the hell out of them, invaded them, got rid of their regime, made their Fhuer comit suicide, occupied them, split them up with a wall, for 50 years populated them with horny marines.....
And they still make the best frick...ing cars in the world, and now a new POPE !!!
Do I need to explain it any better.... thats what im taking about man...
