Uhhh, I think you've crossed signals.

I laughed at your friend's comment that he prefers the overall sound of his WRX. Apparently he hasn't heard RSR's or Supercups. His opinion is just incomprehensible to me. I have a lot of respect for Subies, but their sound and interior aesthetics definitely don't impress me.

LOL....I do endure quite a bit of crap from him....kidding aside, I think one can only conclude that we both love our cars, but respect each others..

Ps, sorry about the mix-up; wrx vs sti etc.

You're 0 to 60 times for the WRX are way off, Road and Track, Car and Driver, etc show more like 4.8 to 4.9 which is excellent any way you look at it. When I went to the STI forum, most comments favor the STI and pretty much slam the 993/911 and Porsche in general if you read the actual statements. One guy even tells a tale about a friend in a WRX being forced to leave a track by Porsche people because he was passing Porsches all day and a reference to elitist attitudes, not only a BS story ( I see WRX and EVOs at the track all the time, no one makes them leave and in fact I enjoy seeing them there), but another indication of how a lot of people view Porsche owners.

"One guy even tells..."

Are you sure this story is true or just another urban legend?

To me it just sounds too much.

Every Porsche track event I've attended and had WRX, STi, Honda, Corvette, Viper, Mini, Mustang or whatever brand of car never had any kind of attitude like that, just the opposite.

On events where I've run with all sorts of different cars, I've always welcomed them and to me, it's more interesting when there is big variety of cars. And every other Porsche owner I've come across on those events have had the same feeling, no question about it.

If some poor Porsche driver doesn't have the ability to handle when Sti or whatever car passes him/her, or can't drive fast enough to pass them, then he/she just has to learn drive faster or accept the fact that the other car-driver combination is faster. And most certainly quit being jackass like in that story.
But like I said, I doubt that happened.

Everyone should also always remember that when you compare two cars, you really compare two car-driver combinations, especially when you're at track.
By driving around the block is really not very good way to do much comparisons anyway.

Actually that is my point, it was posted on the STI board in this thread being reference and I think it is a BS story, made up story. I have seen all types of cars at our track events and no one harasses them or makes them leave we welcome them...it is more of a indication of some of the perceptions of Porsche owners by non-Porsche owners.

Well, I have a 964 and a regular WRX and they're both great. The Porsche has it all over the Sube in build quality, refinement, and just that sense that you're driving a seriously well made, high performance automobile. The Sube is cheap and cheerful, an econocar with a hot engine, but not in the same league of sophistication. As to speed, they're both fast. Neither is terribly quick without abusing the clutch. But if you drive 'em between 3500 and redline, they feel pretty close. I suspect a naive driver would be faster in the Sube, since the handling dynamics are so obviously different and the Sube's feels more "familiar". For me, the Sube is the perfect all-season car. Fast, fun, and AWD. Different strokes...

I'm tired of these silly comparisons ...which is why I'm responding

The simply fact is that the WRXs (and their EVO variants) are what they are : econocars with tuned engines and suspensions. Nothing wrong with that at all; they are a good, inexpensive way to get some thrills...so who's not ok with that? I get annoyed whenever someone from the WRX or whatever crowd continually tries to compensate for their less-expensive purchase by berating Porsches or other higher-dollar vehicles. What they, and many, fail to understand, is that they are vastly different cars. That they may perform with similar numbers means nothing beyond the simple fact that they perform with similar numbers; this does NOT make them similar cars. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming

hey everyone!

i'm from over at iwsti.com. i've been reading the thread with a lot of interest. i want to stipulate that i love and respect porshes. anyone with a braincell would.

i just wanted to explain that most of us are not deluded into thinking and sti is an exotic high performance sports car. that really is the point of it and the real kick for me. for 32k i got a 4 door with as sophisticated an awd system of any production car on the planet, which is really useful for my 1,100 ft uphill winding dirt and gravel off-road course of a driveway. with the other 30+k i've spent on it (w/another 10k or so to go), with almost 600 whp i can spank a z06 (or any other production car, no matter how much you spent for it) and then pull him out of a snowbank.

So, Bruce, you're here because you secretly covet a 993 despite the fact that an STI walks all over it in so many ways? Me too. Odd that 993s cause such conflicted feelings. You know in your brain that the STI is a superior performance car, yet you just can't get the 993 out of your heart. Maybe there's counseling, or a 12 step program. Or maybe the only cure is to buy one.

Here's a tip: when you stop using the word "spank" in posts about your car, you're making progress.
