Default how hard is hard..

We all talk about driving like you stole it but how hard do you guys really push your 993's. Once at temp I usually push it to 52-5500 r's before shifting and accelerate as fast as conditions allow. Is this considered hard? Does this shorten the life of any peticular parts. Just wondering...

I'm sure by shifting higher than 3k to 4k you are shortening engine life to some extent, but where is the fun in that? When warm, I will shift 5k to 6k, with the occasional redline shift (have hit the rev limiter a few times).

I often touch the redline at least a few times, after she's warmed up and road permitting. 5-6K under normal driving conditions, if possible. These cars are meant to be reved up, if you baby it too much, you could end up with the dreaded carbon-buildup problem.

Once the engine is warm and I am going 'hard', I will change just over 6,000 but almost never hit the limiter. I occasionally feel the ABS kicking in as I brake hard into a corner, and usually feel the car wriggling as I nail it out of a corner. Only on empty country roads with excellent visibility, of course. Those are my favourite moments in the car

Drive her like she has been using your credit card too much. They like it.

driving hard isn't all about straight line acceleration

almost every time i take my 993 out (2x a day, 50 miles each time) i make sure to hit 6k at least once...usually when i am entering a highway (in 3rd gear).

It's a great feeling accelerating through the gears shifting out at redline and taking a corner and perfectly tracking out.... Of all the areas of my life that can entertain comparisons for "feelings of accomplishment", everything else is just a footnote (sorry grown kids!)....

Same here, once I see the thermostat has opened, and oil temps have restabilized, its near redline, but not into the limiter at least once every drive. Usually 2nd gear as redline in third is near 100mph

Got to clear-out the cholesterol

Yesterday I opened her up on my way home, I rev'd her up, definitely kept her in the 5k to 6.5k rpm range. Very hard to keep out of the triple digits.

I can't believe you all are actually debating whether to push the car hard. That's what I bought it for. I track it, AX it and like someone said, drive it like I stole it. I still pinch myself that it's mine and that's why I bought it. If I wanted an "automobile" instead of a sports car, I'd have gotten a Mercedes.....

Now, before someone takes a shot at me for getting into a fender bender....I was doing 25mph.... So, if you're worried about something happening to the car, think about what can happen if you DON'T drive it hard.

My car rarely sees the street, so when it gets exercise, it's usually on the track hitting redline from 1st to 4th.

On occasions when I do drive on the street, I'll redline 1st, 2nd and 3rd and, um, exceed the interstate speed limit.
