With Bay Area traffic, it's virtually impossible to drive the RUF hard. Just way too many cars on the road. I'd go very early (6ish) into the mountains and drive for about 40-60 miles, mostly second gears. That's when I had fun in my car. Unfortunaltely, we had about 3-4 non-rainly weekends since November 2004, so this had been a terrible year for fun drives. With the car in VB's place and all, I only put on 1,500 miles since September 2004, and that included a 400 miles foray last week into N. Cal.

Did someone say "Track Day"?
You really need to go to the track with that beast.
I remember I felt like that after I moved to the states, there just wasn't place qwhere you could "stretch the legs" of your car properly.
And when you go to the track first time, you realize how slow your "fast" street driving is.
Every time I talk to these souped up 996 TT guys down here and they brag about going so fast etc. For them, going fast means hitting 190 mph at one of Turnpike's looooong straights.
That's not exiting, instead of going 190 mph in a straight line, try going 120 mph on a turn, next to concrete wall at (i.e. Bishop Bend @ Sebring), that's hell of a lot "faster" and exiting than 190 in a straight line.

I know I get the ******* "cruising" at 120 and change through T8 at WSIR, especially when offtrack looks like a moonscape. But with 130+ on the front straight I'm almost tempted to pop in a CD. Indeed, the track is where it's at!

My 993 comes home Mon. after 6 mos. in the shop being repaired from my track wreck. Rest assured, I am going to drive the living $hit out of this car. I don't care how hard it's raining, snowing or whatever. Old Ox Rd. in Herndon, here I come!!!!! Yes, my car (SC or 993) sees redline every time I drive her. I hit the limiter once in a great while. Today I drove the SC to work (just got it home last night after corner balance and alignment after full susp. rebuild), so I gave her a good workout. Gawd, this car is loud and fast. 993 is about to get her legs seriously stretched.

Another good rationlization, I mean reason, to drive hard: Because of all that negative camber, I have to drive hard; otherwise, I'll wear out the inside of the tires.

If you don't kill bugs on the doors (instead of just the front end and windshield), then you're not driving hard enough

How's this for hard: I just got into it an hour ago with a Suburu RX, and an new M3. The M3 and I took out the RX, redlining it all the way - straight line. Then at about 120 the M3 LEFT ME STANDING!!! Holly Crap I did not realize those things were that fast! The M3 guy said he had 330hp stock but I swear those gear ratios were stronger - who's got a turbo for sale!!!!

i love my 993 better, but there is no question that the E46 M3 was a much faster car...weighs not much more than our cars and puts out 333hp standard... over 100hp per liter, 8k rpm redline, piston speed of 25m/second at max...that piston speed is not much different than a formula 1 engine from what i understand...

You ever saw that clip of me at Sebring? (if not, you can check it here ).
I think I killed couple of bugs with my door at Bishop bend, I was going about 115 mph sideways when worn rear tyres showed me what suddenly losing grip means! (It's around 0:34 mark on that clip).
