I'm going to do this when my clutch comes up for replacement. Some of you mention anissue with early 993s. What's that all about? Mine is 1995 C4. Also is there anything worth doing at the same time (other than my slight oil leak? ;-) )?
Cheers,

OK, here's the bottom line and absolute truth about dual mass flywheel:
Dual mass flywheel is one of the worst things is 993 and this is your chance to fix it.
They started installing these on Porsches because of overly sensitive pimpin' poseurs, I get the pictuer you're not one of them so there really is no issue here.

[QUOTE=David in Chicago]Doesn't Andial offer a "mid-weight" flywheel? Does anyone have any experience with this part? Does it diminish the "rattling" in neutral? (If not then, of course, it wouldn't seem to have much benefit over the standard LWF).
I have the Andial "mid-weight" flywheel, and have had this in the car for the past four (4) years. The gear set rattling around noise is there: Depress the clutch, and the noise goes away.

Caveman,
There are a few recent postings that suggest that stalling can be a problem with pre-96 cars.
I am also interested to learn if the rattles are present on cars that have the LWF as standard.

Isn't stalling just part of getting used to the clutch (car and driver!). When I was looking for my old 3.2 years ago I was warned that I would probably stall the car the first time I drove it and lo and behold if I didn't do this...

the whole noise issue for the LWF is really overblown. I was worried about the same thing when I had mine done and tt Andial about the MWF option. Bottom line: you only need a MWF if you have a '95 and the LWF is certainly one of the the best mods you can do on this car. If your clutch is bad it is an absolute no-brainer. THE NOISE IS TINY COMPARED TO THE PERFORMANCE GAIN.

No, it's because when you disengage the clutch and go to neutral the revs drop too quickly (less mass on the flywheel) and too low, causing the engine to stall. (OBD2 is supposed to be better able to prevent/adjust for this than the ODB1.)
There are some adjustments the driver can make to driving style, such as not shift into neutral while stopping until 1,000 or 1,500 rpms, but that may not always work. And a stalling car isn't exactly the safest thing for you or others.

Any way to tell?
[QUOTE=Martin S.]
Does a standard flywheel/clutch make any noise at idle? My car has a rattly noise at idle, so perhaps I already have this mod. How can I tell without opening it up? I just found out in the process of changing the suspension for RoW M030 that the PO did replace the springs with RoW Turbo springs - maybe he did the LFW/RS clutch as well.
