"Does a standard flywheel/clutch make any noise at idle?"
as far as i can tell, the dual-mass flywheel was designed to dampen the noise. as i recall (please correct me if wrong) it consists of two plates and rubber bladder sandwiched between them to absorb the chatter it would otherwise make.

Question

There is chatter at idle as others have mentioned and if you lug the engine in 1st/2nd you'll notice a little noise as well
What kind of noise do you get in 2nd? When I'm between 1-2K RPM, I hear a kind of "ringing" noise, particularly if I'm going up a steep hill.

It's hard to describe, best way to put it is like you were rubbing a really big glass with a wet finger. Definitely wasn't there before the LWF went in.
