I thought I would give an update on what is happening with the car.
-The left pannel repairs are all done.
-The engine and the new extras are all done.
-The car is on its way to the body shop to have the bumper and the wing put back on.
-The car will then go back to have its top put back on.
-The car will then goback to my mechanic to have an alignment.

For those that wonder why is it taking so long, well here is the story:
The car is being repaired by 3 shops.
Shop1 is a very reputable body shop in SD. This is where all the body repairs/paint are done.
Shop2 is a very reputable Porsche mechanic in SD. This is where the engine was removed and replaced. Alignment and anything mechanical.
Shop3 is a local Porsche dealership in SD. This is where the top is being removed and hopefully put back on.

Shop 1 and 2 have done a wonderful job.
The local dealership however has given me what I would qualify as the worst service ever. They gotthe car in order to put the top up and becasue one of their technicians got hurt, they kept the car a full 5 weeks with no work at all. I was unfortunately on a business trip overseas and couldn t be there to get upset and get the thing moving. After the technician "healed" they then realized that they were missing some sealsfor the top and some parts. So they had to order these from Germany.
Iam now being told that they have received all the parts and that they should start on the top next week.
This has ben the most frustratingexperience ever. The insurance has paid all these guys upfront and I have received terrible terrible service from this dealership in San Diego. Going FWd, I will never spend a $at this dealership. I have been treated like crap by this dealership.
Anyway heerare some pics to show the progress

touf,

I am not surprise to hear about the crappy service from the "stealer". I had the same crappy experience with the stealer that removed my engine while my car is in the body shop. I won't go into detail as to the crappy services right now but in the end I pulled the job and transported my engine to an independent shop (where I should've gone in the first place). My experiences with this stealer is boarderline discrimination but like you I don't have time to deal with them right now... but I will.

I will never spend another dime with them and will be very cautious with others.....

The car with the painted pannel and the engine being mounted.
The good news is that the engine lined up perfectly. I was really worry about damage to the engine box frame.
Sorry for the bad pics.

Forgot to say:
In addition to crappy service, the dealer managed to:
-Bend the oil lines.
-loose some parts.
-scratch a wheel.

I really don t know how they did this without even working the car. One has to assume, the worst is yet to come once they start working on that damn top.
When the job is over, I will take personnal interest in sharing my experience from this dealership with other locals.

I have very honnestly received better service when I used to take my crappy rusty old college car to the Jiffy lube for a 9.95 oil change.
The dealer billed the insurance over 6k for work that hasn t even been completed yet and unfortunately my insurance has already paid up.

I ll post more pics of the car when I get back to San Diego, I amm again on a road trip in China.
Hopefully the car will be done by the time I get back.

Thanks for the update. We have been wondering about you. Seems like a whole lot of work for one silly mess up on the track! That is how it goes. I still have nightmares about your video.

Good luck.

If it helps, my buddy also had a mishap on the track. He got the car back last week ... the incident was in February.

Hi Tawfik,

Thanks for the pictures. I am in the middle of repairing my top so any pictures of the internals help immensly.

I am in the middle of removing my top and resealing it. Here are some thoughts about putting the top on that you might want to forward to the dealership to make sure that the top is put on property. My top was not mounted properly by the dealership here in Vancouver (the godamm Porsche stealer is the more appropriate language). Here are some "watch items"

1 - Porsche recommends a two part adhesive be used to bond the top to the car. However the gun for the two part adhesive is not available anymore (to the best of my knowledge). Most people use Urethane. Not sure what your dealer will use. I think Urethane will be OK.

2 - The top should be aligned side to side. If the top is placed and then aligned there is a risk the adhesive will be squeezed out on one side, and if the top is pushed back to the other a void will be created. Again this happened on my top.

3 - The space between the rear deck and the edge of the rear window is 8 +-3 mm. Only the minimum amount of adhesive should be used. The amount is specified in the shop manual. The adhesive should not fill the drain channels anywhere on the rear joint between the top and the body. In my case the $#*)$*# dealer filled the drain channels full urethane and the water stopped draining properly, causing some rust problems and leaks. This channel helps any water that makes it past the external seal to drain way.

4 - The external rubber seal is held to the car by three retaining strips. There is a large curved one that goes along the channel below the rear window and the two others on each side where the metal side of the roof comes down to the body. The rear retainer is riveted to the body and has to be attached before the top goes on. The side ones are held on my adhesive. In my case the $#)($* dealership again did not even install the retaining strips but just filled everything with urethane and stuck the rubber seals on.......I am missing about $400 in parts alone.

5 - Its critical that the front seals side nice and tight where the metal sides of the Targa top join up with the windshield. This is a common leak point.

I would recommend that you leak test the crap out of the car while the warranty is still there...and leaks will show up quickly if they are there.

I would dearly like more pictures (whatever you have) that shows the details around the rear deck, especially the rear facing drains. I also need pictures of the front windshield top frame where the rubber seal is mounted.

I am not sure what your shedule is and I hope you can get some more pictures. If not thanks anyways and I hope that you have a good trip to China!

Cheers,

Mike

Painful to see the bad pictures, but glad she's coming back together!

Just noticed your license plate! I almost put this on my 04 Targa but traded it before I picked the plates up at the DMV:
