Speed Bleeders
Has anyone used speed bleeders on their 993? Had them on my 964 and they worked slick. The catalogue stops at 1994. I called the company and they said they just has not updated their catalogue.

I am waiting for someone....
like you to try the speed bleeders. They seem like a great product.
I had a Champagne Weissach Coup for 5 years, great car. I never should have sold it...what do you want for yours?
Thanks,

I have them on my race (non-P) car. Pretty good product.
I would strongly assume that 964 and 993 use the same bleeders. but Russel (the mfg) would know for sure.

I've used speed bleeders for several years, first on my '87 911, and now on my '96 993. They work very well, and I have never had any problem. I bleed my brakes after every event, between 12 and 15 times a season. I have had no problems with my master cylinder as Ray has reported. I bought mine through Performance Products.

So what's the benefit of Speedbleeders vs. spending less for a Motive bleeder which can be used on multiple cars? SB would also require at least 8 entries into the car to pump the brakes. What am I missing?

They are easy to use. I didn't have to carry the Motive can to the track with me (when I had a 911 with a roof rack for track tires, and the cage and seats excluded the back seat, space was a premium). I started using them before Motive was around, and have liked the way they work. I have a Motive system for my Audi with Stoptech brakes, so I've used both. I still prefer the speed bleeders. I even modified the Motive (no big accomplishment) so that I wouldn't have to re-pump it every time I disconnected to re-fill my reservoir, to save time. They both work. Use the one you prefer.

Dan, one of the things I dislike about Motive is that you have to fill it with brake fluid and then dump the remaining fluid (at least that's the way I understand its operation). No fluid waste with SpeedBleeders.
ATE blue is not very expensive, but Motul 600 is and I used in in my previous car.

The Motive can be used w/o any fluid in it to pressurize the MC reservoir & eliminate the need to pump the pedal. I assume that's how Chuck used it. Alternatively, smaller amounts of fluid to avoid waste can be used in the Motive if the MC level is monitored. With ATE @ $10/can the small amount wasted doesn't bother me.

I don't put any fluid in the Motive. I just use it as a pressure source. I fill the reservoir with fluid, and bleed until it gets down to about 1/4, which happens 2-3 times for a 4 wheel bleed. ( I replaced the Motive tubing with a longer piece of vinyl, and put a valve in the middle.) Then, when the reservoir gets low, I close the valve to the Motive so the pressure is maintained, and take it off the reservoir to fill it. Once I top off the reservoir, I re-attach the Motive, I open the valve, and re-pressurize the brake system, and bleed again.
I don't have any brake fluid waste, and the Motive stays dry and clean, and the fluid stays dry. The valve saves some time.
I still like the speed bleeders...

Dan, Chuck, I ordered Motive a couple years ago from AJUSA and tried to use it just as you described - as a pressure source. It did not hold the pressure. Sent it back, they said that it was a defective seal, but I did not get a replacement, as I thought that was not how they intended to use it.
I still prefer the old-fashioned 2-man approach with a friend. But might give Motive a try again, as we have 3 BMWs and a Porsche between the 4 guys using a friend's garage, so it'll be cheap enough :-)

Has anyone ever used one of the vaccum bleeders as offered by Griot's? I had a very bad experience with a pressure style bleeder once, and am very interested in a system that doesn't pressurize the master cylinder reservoir.
