Default Brkes seize/lockup when wet

Anytime I drive my car in the rain and park it in the garage. When I go use it the next day the brakes are seized I basically have to almost floor it to break the wheels free. I have tried to dry the brakes off by driving back and forth in the garage and applying the brakes but it doesn't seem to help.

Brian,

We were talking about this the other day here. They make a hell of a bang when they break (no pun intended) loose, don't they? Not much you can do about it except crank up the leaf blower when you get home to dry out the brakes - but then your wife may call someone to take you away.

Everyone has the same problem, but not to the extent of "flooring it" to break'em free, at least not in my case. Not really anything to worry about, though, nothing is being damaged.

Thanks for your reply Mike. Yes they make a very loud bang once they brake free. I dont have to completely floor it but I do have to get on it a bit sometimes more so than others.

The leaf blower is a great idea but I think if I do that my family will have me admitted.

Brian,

Yeah, they really seize up after a day or so. The first time it happened to me I figured I had a broken axle or something. Scared the crap out of me.

Crazy, I'm having this same issue in my new '95, and I was wondering what's going on. It never happened at all in my 1.5 years of owning a '96. I'd have to think there's a solution here.

Thats interesting Eric. I wonder if has to do with the brake pad material?

I put a block of wood behind the rear tire and take the parking brake off. Still gives a small clunk but not as bad.

Ian.

Haven't really noticed it much, even with the "joyous" weather here in western PA. Car is not a daily driver, but has definitely seen plenty of rain. Am running stock pads on the street and switch to Performance Friction before a track event (which the car gets driven to & from).

I have it too, but only if the car is really really wet. On a normal wash, not to bad. But one time, it had sat in the garage for a few days, and I thought I broke something.
