Default Stock sway bar with coilovers?

I have read many posts reccomending TRG or RS adjustable sway bars when upgrading to PSS9 or JIC coilovers. I just purchased the full JIC setup, and their rep suggested using the stock sway bars. The car is toy use only, DE track time etc. I like low, stiff and flat. Thoughts?

I don't know too much about JIC, but I know w/ PSS9s you are better off with upgrading your swaybars for track use. I'd say the minimum would be M030s.

If you like stiff, you will like JIC.

Changed out to TRG bars at the same time as the JIC's were installed so I have no reference to the stock bars. Did you buy the 8kg front and the 12kg rear springs for the JIC?

If you upgrade to TRGs or RS bars, you will need a different rear drop link. The ones that come with the JIC are the standard above toe arm short links. The problem is that with the bi-tube shock, the mounting point for the drop link is WAY too high to use an RS type drop link with an under the toe arm bar. You will need some special rod end type drop links in order to work with these other bars... I have told these guys at JIC that the US market with these shocks must have the ability to use a different sway bar. Apparently in Japan, they do not use anything other than stock bars (or at least that was what I was told). While I am not a total fan of them, it may be easier to use the H&Rs in this case...

Bradford, yes, I got the competition set with 8 and 12kg springs. How did you handle the issue Bob has just described?
Bob, what is your suggestion if I want to use the TRG sways? I did not see any links in the box. Do I need to buy some new links? What and where?

David, if you want some rear drop links I could make up a set that would work as I have done it for a number of my JIC 993 customers. Just give me a call at the shop if your interested or have any other questions. 650.369.3383

David. I think you should deffinately upgrade the sways. You have sooo much suspension, seems a waste not to pair it with equal quality sways. Bob works at Devek, a sponsor. They manufacture some custom drop links. Perhaps they have something that will adapt some TRGs. Look unde the Sponsor link, top left or PM Bob. Very helpful. Congrats and good luck.

Yes, I agree the upgraded sways make the most sense. I only asked because the JIC rep brought up the suggestion of using the stock bars. I have heard good things about the TRG bars, so will probably go that route, and contact Bob about links. Thanks.

I put stock Turbo sway bars on mine with the PSS9s. $200 and I can't drive to the limit of either yet....

Talking The other side of the coin...

Look at the sway bars on "dedicated" race cars, are they monster or are they something less?

Some suspension tuners feel it is best to tune the suspension with springs and use the lightest possible sway bars. Maybe this is where JIC is coming from.

Me personally, I like having adjustable sway bars, and monster TRGs at that. However, I am compromising...the PSS9s are not big springs by race car standards...let's say a 993 RSR with 600+ Lb springs on front and 1,000 + Lb springs on the rear. Compare this to the PSS9s, 225-250, front, and 400-685 rear springs....hmmmmmmm

I agree with the writer above, I had 22mm M030 RoW fronts and 21mm Turbo rear bars with M030 RoW suspension...the car was rock solid. I had the rear 21mm bar drilled for an added adjustment point were under steer were to rear her ugly head...in fact I put the bar in the full stiff position...forgot that I had made the adjustment, went out on a big track Willow Springs Raceway, and felt 0, nada, oversteer...conclusion, the 22mm front and 21mm rear Porsche bars do the job....that is my $0.02

If you bought the JIC's for the track adjustability, it would make sense for you to want to tune the handling with sway bars as well.

If you've gone this far, I'd say the excellent TRG bars are not that much more of stretch for you to go.

I have Viper Bob's drop links. For the street only I am changing to the 7kg front and 10kg rear springs (jic). The 8 & 12 are not very compliant to average road surfaces. While driving alone it's tolerable, passengers will find it jarring.

I just got a set of JIC's with 7 and 11 (according to the markings on the box-end). I was under the impression the TRG from my 964 would fit but if course.. that is WAY off base, so the TRG went back on the '64 and I'm looking for a new rear.

This is the best of the the threads I've found so far. If I go with the Turbo rear (I know I'm losing that adjustablity) and then use the TRG Front from the 964 (sitting on my work bench) is this an OK direction or am I screwing the pooch?

I'll use stock for now (since I want to get this thing back on the road and sways are an easy swap). I also have the RS rear drop links, so with the stock bar, do I mount above or below that lower tow link? I'm really confused after seeing pictures of both.

THX!
