Default Traffic pro ( once again...)

Hi all,

I bought a Traffic pro on Ebay last week and tried to place it this week end.
I did a search on Rennlist before the buy, and learned quite a few things. My car is equipped with the Nokia sound system, and I confirm a post I've seen here that you have to jump the A5 with the C1-6 to have the amplifier powered. Without that jump: no sound.

Now a few questions:

1-I know it's not very important for the system to work, but I'd like to connect the "reversing light signal". An easy solution would be to run a wire to the rear and connect it to one reversing light. I found in the engine compartment, on the right side an electrical plug which power all the rear lighting. There is a Blue/ Black wire in it which is the one for the reversing light. Is somebody able to tell me where that wire goes to the front of the car? I found a Blue/Black above the passenger feet, but would like to be sure it's the same...which is not really obvious!

2-Where did you connect the A6 (illumination) And what is it for? My radio seems to be already illuminated without that terminal connected!

Now, I'm not certain it is clear here on Rennlist, but one thing is sure, I didn't see it before I turned my radio on :there are several types from the same radio...Let me clear up this: Every car maker can have it's own type.
So the TP 4720 is the Becker original, when the 4730 is the Ford version, 4760 the Porsche version, 4725 the Renault version I guess etc... No big deal as the radios and gps work the same way. May be there is a little logo on the front face that you can clean delicately with solvent, but when I turn my 4730 on, there is a "wonderful" Ford logo showing up for a few seconds
Not a problem, but I have to distract my passenger when I turn it on just not to hear a cheap laugh about it!!!

I sent a mail to Becker Germany today to see if it's possible to clear that logo. There are several opinions on this on a German Forum about nav systems, and I'm still not sure of the answer. I'll let you know.
If you're interested, here is the link to the German nav forum

Wouaw, Becker was quick to answer! But not a good news:

Dear Sir,

thank you for your inquiry. Because this unit is specially produced for Ford it's impossible to change the logo.

Mit freundlichen Gruessen
Yours sincerely

I'll live with it...at least for a few month

I cannot understand this on a marketing point of view!

The illumination signal reverses the display lighting. When you turn on the lights, the TP display background goes from amber to black and the text becomes amber as opposed to black. I pulled the illumination signal from the cigarette lighter.

Dudley connecting the orange illumination wire does one more thing; it allows the head unit brightness to vary with the same **** used for all dashboard lights. I tapped into the ashtray light. It was very accessible IMO.

Thanks to both of you! Mmm Dudley your logo looks nice...we are on a Porsche forum so I won't show you mine

Now it's still not clear in my mind: is the logo depending only on the removable front plate which rotate to give access to the cd? Changing that part would change the logo...and the menus? I noticed that in the menus to prepare the calibration, I do not have the possibility to enter the tires size or change the display colour.

JP,

When I replaced the front plate, the logo was changed to Porsche. I am guessing that there is firmware in the front plate itself.

Is there anyone close by that would let you try their plate to determine whether or not it is compatible with the Ford edition?

That's a good news!

?? I don't know anybody with a Becker. I'll go to my Porsche specialist tomorrow and ask him...and I'll mail "Elke" again to ask her specifically where the "logo bios" is situated.
Otherwise, what a nice guidance it gives! I really like the fact that we can mix the radio with the guidance. On my bmw it's one or the other, and downtown it's impossible to listen the radio cut too regularly by the guidance.

Cheers

Dudley,

I checked for the reverse signal: there is no relay 51, it's only used for automatic gearbox! Still looking for that black blue wire...

I have found a reply on local electronic forum. The front panel holds an eprom thaat can be programmed, once the panel is removed. The tech guy would then have to download whats there, change 2 bits and this way change to any logo of FORD, BMW, PORSCHE, MASERATI, FERRARI etc. This require special tools I believe.
