Rain gutters: 993 the last car with them?
For some stupid reason, I started noticing that besides our 993s (and probably VW bugs) there are no cars sold after the mid 70s or so that still have rain gutters. For most older cars, the rain gutters are an afterthought for the assembly method of "rolling" the roof section into the sides. Since our 993s are the last of the 1964 901 design technology, we are stuck with the obsolete and non-aerodynamic gutters. So, like an obsessed idiot, now I'm looking for rain gutters to see what the newest car (besides our 1998 993s) are out there that still have rain gutters.
Has anybody else been bothered with this or am I the only **** moron out there? Any opinions on when they stopped being used by others?
BTW, a friend of mine decided to grind the rain gutters off of his 911. He would grind about 2" at a time, and reweld the roof to the sides, else the car would pop apart. After weeks of effort, he was really sorry he started that project.

Know what you mean Steve, as I notice these types of things as well.. What a weirdo I am I feel this is part of the heritage of 911, among other things like the INTERIOR SMELL (OG )
The only other auto with rain gutters up through at least the late 90's is the Ford Ranger pick-up..

Not sure what current cars still have the gutters, but I believe RUF sliced them off -- one easy way to tell if a RUF was a conversion or RUF factory built from the chassis-up. FYI, if you don't like the aerodynamics of them, RUF sells inserts to help smooth-out the leading edge.

WHat happened and I was in Europe when this was discused, is, it was started with the 356.
Dr Ing noticed it rained alot in Germany and he wanted rain gutters. Then with the 993 was designed it was supposed to get the 996 roof and be sans gutters, but in a cost cutting move Porsche decided against it. the gutterless roof could have been there as early as 94 which would have been last century.
So that is the story according to Excellence was expected as I remember before the anejo margaritas.
Now I am not even putting the margarita juice in ti. Jsut sartrait anejo.
