V1 Paid for Itself
I have a Valentine One hardwired in my 993 that saved me last Saturday morning in a very close call against LIDAR. Seeing that the road was wide open with no other traffic, I accelerated to a speed well in excess of the speed limit and maintained that speed for several seconds when the alert when off. I hit the brakes very hard which slowed the car down about 25 mph in 1 second from what it was doing and looked for the source. This reduced speed is close to the speed limit in the area. Initially, I couldn't see anything but after another 100 yds or so, there was a deputy sheriff on a bike along the side of the road. He pointed the LIDAR gun again just before I passed him and gave an acknowledgement wave as I went by, perhaps to let me know he decided not to pull me over.
The reading on his LIDAR must have indicated my initial speed, but it must have showed my slowing down since the V1 alert was sounding while I was deccelerating. While the laser alert has gone off many times in the past when my speed was within the limits, this was the first instance where the alert signal and my reaction actually saved me from another day at traffic school, etc.

I'm confused. You say that he clocked your initial speeding, yet it saved you from a ticket. How's that? If he clocked you, then the only thing that saved you was his generosity.

I just had my V1 updated for full coverage on POP mode radar. Interestingly, this upgrade also includes a new feature: "When the signal-identification system determines that a current warning is not, in fact, a radar threat, it notifies you with a "dee-dah-doo" sound and terminates the warning. At the same time, the letter "J" will flash briefly in the bogey counter".
Looks like I got a brand new unit with the upgrade, or they replaced the slightly scratched forward looking red plastic and pasted a new serial number on it.

Sounds like he did get your speed and gave you a "pass" on this one. While the V1 is a great detector (arguably the best), it certainly didn't save you from what could have a been a summons. On the other hand if you continued to accelerate, then you probably would have been toast. Get a Laser Shifter/Diffuser...it's the only chace you have against Lidar.

I was hit or detected some bleed off another car in front of me on I-5 but the stater didnt even look at me so that led me to believe that he was aiming at other car other then me. I love this V1 it has saved me several times against radar and better yet laser. I dont think I would have fared better if I had the Passport 8500 anymore.

After taking a little road trip down to the DC area in the 993 earlier this week (Yes, it snowed while I was there) I realized I need to put a detector in the car.
Years ago, I always installed remote units in my cars, but I haven't had one in years. From everything I read, the V1 seems to be a great unit, but I refuse to have that thing stuck on my windshield....especially in a cab. If I'm going to install one, I want a true remote unit, not the remote display Valentine offers.
Anyone have a recommendation of a decent one? I understand it may not be as good a unit as a V1, but I'm willing to live with that.

Escort also has a couple of remote systems, however they seem to be a lot less popular and I can't speak for their effectiveness.

V1 - Oh yea, I was out last Sunday doing a fairly good clip on a curvy two lane road with only one other car on the road, He was in front of me doing about the same speed. The V1 went off and I instantly jammed on the brakes, man can these cars brake. Anyway I couldn't see the threat but the arrow was pointing forward and the tone kept getting faster and louder. Finally over the ridge comes the sheriff - I'm doing 55 now so I'm feeling a bit more confident. All of a sudden the Sheriff turns around, Xmas lights going - I'm toast-but then he zooms past me and picks off the car that was in frt of me. With a sigh of relieved I thought "Saved by the V1" I love this detector" - if only they could make this detector really remote.

My V1 has saved my *** more times than I care to think about. It's one fault is that it is so good that it can give you a sense of relative invulnerability. A new problem that I've had lately are signals from the new laser cruise contols or at least I think that's what's triggering it. I'm next to some late model sedan and the dectectoris going crazy. Has anyone else encluntered this problem?
