Default Is your light switch **** lighted?

The heated mirror **** and Fog Light **** are lighted at night. Is the Light switch **** supposed to be lighted as well?

Also, my heated mirror light bulb seems that is lose, It lights up in the "dim" (off) position if I wiggle the **** somewhat, If I pull it to activate the mirrors, it lights up strong fine.

How do I go about changing / checking the bulb? Do I pull, unscrew, etc, the swicth?

Trying to get all these little "details" sorted out.... Thanks!

You may have a lose or bad bulb then, mine are "dimmed" when the fogs are off, and "Bright" when the fogs are on. The same for the heated mirror ****. However, the headlight **** is always dark.

Cab,

The headlamp switch should be lit for in your '96. The PET calls out a bulb and my early build '97 (built in '96) is lit.

The headlight switch internal bulb should be on any time the ignition switch is on. You have to pull back the rubber lip on the **** and pop out the center legend plate that shows the light bulb on it. You can replace the bulb by pulling it out gently with a pair of tweezers. It is a bayonet mount. Bulb is a p/n
900-631-132-90, 1.2 watt.

Your other lighted switch may just have a bulb that needs reseating or you have to play with the bayonet ends to get a tighter fit. Be careful not to blow a fuse if you poke into the base where the bulb fits.

Cab,

No problemo. When I got my car, the headlamp switch was dark too. I was always looking for the switch in the dark and cussing the lousy design, till I read a thread here about the internal bulb.

I don't think that they're a bayonet type bulb. It has a flat end and just pushes in and pulls out. No twisting is required ie. a bayonet fitting. At least that it how mine is.
I got my bulb from Advance Autos, they're not expensive.
They're easy to crush/smash when removing so be careful!

PS. The switch unscrews off which makes it easier to change the bulb.

Wasn't when I bought the car. Then I replaced the burnt-out bulb in the switch ****.

Light related question almost on point.

When did Porsche start lighting the ignition key hole?

Oh good, something else to fix!
Let's see now: distributor caps and rotors, spark plugs, brake pads and fluid, DAS roll bar and harnesses...

A 'push-in and pull-out' method of attachment IS a 'bayonet' style. There is a no 'twisting' with a bayonet lamp and socket base.
