I never knew this...is it just a solid cylinder underneath or just a non-functional key slot?

I have a 96 C4S and mine has the plug - there is a cylinder behind the plug. The plug is there to deter the use of the key in the doorlock. It's part of the Lock-Block (if I got the name right - I believe it started in 96) system. Once you use the key in the door, you need to go thru the alarm disarming sequence with the key in the ignition. I don't remember but it's not a simple "stick the key in and start the car". Porsche actually put out a video just on this syste and how to work it. It's pretty complicated and my hat's off to anyone who can remember their code. I keep a spare battery in the car but just to be on the safe side I change the battery in the remote every year.

Default Storage / Battery / Door Lock Issue - Suggestions Please

Hi guys,

It is that time of year here in the North, no not the Holidays, time for storage. So here is my dilemma. I am storing the car in a garage just outside of Chicago. The car needs to be locked as people go in and out of that garage. Yet reading the owner's manual as well as the below thread you are deterred from using the door locks.

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=24909

So the battery needs to remain connected. I went last night to take it out for a drive as the weather cooperated and it barely started. If I disconnect the battery to preserve it then I can only lock it manually, clearly not advisable. A battery tender is a possible solution, but no easy access to a plug in this garage. Short of going to start it every week or two I do not see a easy solution. Anybody have any suggestions? Is my logic correct?

Lastly, What if the battery dies and the doors do not unlock?

I assume I pop the cap off the lock, open the door, pop the boot, charge the battery and then what??? I need a code for the immobilizer to start?

I was missing the door plug from my drivers side so I went down to Weissach to get one...it cost me $0.78, cheapest original Porsche part that I have bought.

I did not know about the missing lock cylinder on the passenger side for MY97+ cars....interesting.

Cheers,

Mike

So how do you make the passenger side match body color?
I didn't know that there was no cylinder on that side and ordered an extra bumperplug. Anyone want to buy an Arctic Silver door plug?
And, JNX, I will send you that black plug eventually.

the passenger side cylinder cover is not the same plug as for the driver side.
the passenger one englobes the cylinder.
