I finished my cooler project (own fabrication) this past weeknd and will have DIY write-up ( with ton of pics) ready tonight.
It will be on www.p-car.com but I will post it here too, keep your eyes open later today!

I'd leave it unpainted if it's aluminum. Very hard to get it done so that the paint stays.
I also bought a mesh like that but then decided to use the stock grille with my car (cooler touches the grill but fits).
