Failed CA Smog Check (ATTN hobbes45 & White Heaven)
My car failed CA smog check with exactly same symptoms as in this post:
<a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=004774" target="_blank">Failed CA Smog Check </a>
i.e. it failed HC level at idle 174 (max 100). On 2500 RPMs it was fine - 45 (max 130). I'm taking car to Porsche mechanic but was wondering what was the fix in your (hobbes45 & White Heaven) cases.
Thanks!!!
P.S. It's also '95 993 (OBDI) with 53k miles. And I doubt there are any carbon buildups since I track my car regularly 10/12 events per year.

You might want to also check if any smog related work is covered under CA's 7 year emission warranty. It might be cutting it a bit close though, since your car is a 95. But definately worth checking into.

From reading the 7 year warranty, it appears that it is only on the parts. The 3 year emissions warranty covers everything.
Has anyone had any luck with using the warranty claim...particularly on the carbon buildup issue? My check engine light came on and the message appears that it may be the much talked about buildup. I have noticed in the past posts that most people have paid for the repair out of pocket.
By the way, I also track my car every few months and make sure to use Techron etc...

Kevin,
I believe that it was error code A08? Something about air injector blockage...I did not write it down, and my mechanic is out of town.
Jeff,
That is potentially good news. I had just read the warranty manual to see what my exposure was. I could have interpreted it wrong. Thank you.
