Range on Remote Key Fob
I'm replacing The Dreaded Engine Wiring Harness this weekend and am going to fix some "incidental" items at the same time.
I've replaced the batteries in all three of my Remotes several times and have noticed that they only work when I'm right up next to the car.
What's the typical range of the Remote and is there an antenna/receiver connection that I need to examine?

The range on the remotes are 10 ft at best and under perfect conditions. This was done to prevent car thieves from intercepting remote codes. The new IR remotes have far superior range. Approximately 30 - 40 ft.

Mine works around 7.745 feet from the car.
Do you hold the button down, or just quickly press it? I've found that holding it down for 1-2 second usually works from a farther range. Maybe it's just me though..

Dan is correct.....you touch it to your chin bone at the point where the skin is the thinnest, and the signal is transmitted through your skeleton.....

Dan,
How much increased range are we talking about?
(I get about 10 ft as well, BTW)

I think it's related to ego, so I can get upwards of 20', but I hear doctors do better
Let us know.

I thought it might correlate more strongly with the size of your "antenna".

No, you're confusing principles. Cosmo's maxim states: "Antenna size is the inverse of HP."
While the range of Peripheral Enhanced Chin Remote ("PECR") is a function of the effective size of one's head.
At least one of us should get back to work. <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />

After a day of meetings, it's nice to get to this board -- Interestingly, the previous posts make more sense than 90% of the meetings.
Thanks for the laughs guys
