Angry Waxy deposit in brake fluid reservoir!?!?!?

Set about flushing the brake fluid of my recently acquired 1996 993 today, and was surprised to discover a fairly thick layer of white sediment in the bottom of the reservoir, with the consistency of P21S wax!

What is it likely to be? I imagine this fluid has never been changed, since it hasn't yet hit the 30,000 mile service interval. I can understand the fluid being quite 'wet', but was surprised to find this solid in the reservoir.

Can anyone tell me exactly what it is, and its implications for my hydraulic system?

Thanks,
Chip

Hi Chip,

I had exactly the same thing happen to me in my old '96. My local independent (Hergesheimer's in Lake Forrest) discovered the problem and was able to remediate it with several flushings of the system. It could have been very expensive. All fingers point to the dealor where the car was previously serviced.

Someone used the incorrect fluid it seems. Good luck getting it handled.

Yes this is very old post, but it was also not answered. I just heard today that a local Porsche tech was seing LARGE NUMBERS of 993's with this same condition. Anyone know?
Thanks

I haven't heard anything else about this myself. I did do a good, thorough flush and have had no brake problems so far.
