Post Installed Weltmeister short shift kit

My mechanic just installed short shift kit from Weltmeister:

I can really recommend this product. Except from making change travel shorter, gear change is more precise and "mechanic". Closer to "hard core" but not at all uncivilized. Very firm and good feeling.

The "preciseness" comes from eliminating the plastic ball and socket joint.

96P993: Yes, everything else is OEM. If I remeber corectly, the price was around U$250.

tom_993: Yeah, it's not anymore like my wife's BMW 320i Coupe gearchange.

FVD has a kit that supposes to shorten the throw by 40% and cost just $50. It looks much more simpler than the one Jack posted above. Did anyone try it, or it's misprinted.

thx

There are generally two types of kits out there: ones that just shorten the shifter, and those that not only shorten the shifter itself but also change the leverage point. I'm not sure about the FVD kit, but if it only costs $50 I would GUESS that it's the former as a kit that changes the leverage point needs more parts as in Jack's phote, in particular a shorter shift rod.

That's what I thought. They had it for all some older models and 993. It was strange that in the back page of the same catalog, they listed it for $45 too

When I searched for the kit I discovered that there is huge price difference between older models and 993. Even same company, Weltmeister, produces for older models U$99 kit.

Gert from <a href="http://www.carnewal.com" target="_blank">www.carnewal.com</a> has factory rennsport version short shift kit at € 275. <a href="http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p93104.htm" target="_blank">Product page</a>

Jack,

Could you give a synopsis of the installation procedure for this kit? Sounds like something I would like to do, but don't want to hassle with taking the car to the shop.

Thanks,

Anyone tried the Ruf version? From what I understand it's range is adjustable, 20/30/50%. I'd be curious if set at the 50% how tight that feels, would it be so close to cause mis-shifts.

Thanks,

Mike
Wasn't mu DIY project, so, can't comment. But I really believe that it's very simple job. Didn't last more than a hour at the shop.

I think the 996's is 30/40/50% adjustable.

I may of thought it up in a dream or perhaps I confused it with the 996 version. Actually, I'm not sure....I had hoped someone had tried one of the Ruf units and knew for sure. I guess what I'm looking for is something close and positive ( kind'a of a gated feel).

Thanks
