Default trumpet horn DIY

Last week I did the DIY to install the louder european trumpet horns in my 98 US-spec cab (kit is available from Gert and DIY instructions are posted on p-car.com). Install was easy and pretty straightforward and would have taken less than an hour if I had not decided to remove my front bumper for another mod while I had the car up on jackstands.

Improvement in loudness is very noticeable and IMHO pretty critical given the increasing number of brain-dead SUV drivers in LA

Having driven in LA for many years - try the DC metro area. UGH! This is on my list of mods to do, so many things, so little cash.

Excellent upgrade David....This was my first DIY for those Brain-dead Bay Area drivers. When I bought my P-car, one of the original horns was shot and subsequently sounded like a american POS

Now, I too can blast those falling asleep at the wheel when needed.

If you feel like it you can take apart the German horn and use the connectors to put on the french horn. That is what I did for a plug and play look.

The trickiest part of the install is sourcing the male pin connections to solder onto the new horn wires. If you don't mind cutting off the female factory harness (or you can recycle the male harness from the old horns as GratefulJED did above) then this step is not required and you can use either wireless crimp connectors or wireless male/female connects...but doing it this way makes the mod easily reversable and IMHO is worth doing. Pins are available at electronic shops (got mine at Fry's in the DIY computer section where they keep circuit board kits)...it's the smallest pin size they carry. Other than sourcing the pins, soldering took 2-3 tries as my soldering skills are less then impressive. I'd rate this DIY about a 1 or 2 max on scale of 1-10.

Wish I could get this for my Cayenne. It sounds worse than my wife's Lincoln Navigator. However, she laughs when I honk the 993 horn. Different strokes...
