Default 993 RS Backseat

I am madly in love with 993 RS but my wife would never let me buy a car without a rear seat (for my children's booster seat").

Can I install a rear seat on 993 RS?.

Thank you soo much for the kind advice.

If all you need is a children's seat in the back of an RS, I would recommend looking into improvising some way to secure a child seat into the rear area of the RS rather than trying to install Porsche factory seats. Under the carpet the RS may lack the fittings that the regular coupe has for attaching the seats backs, upolstery panels, etc. It would be a hack job. If that doesn't suit you you can always get rid of the wife.

Make sure the RS you plan to buy doesn't have the bucket seats (option M384/M385) and that the seats it does have will tilt forward (option M371/M372-regular sport seats). If the car flips it will be almost impossible to pull your kid out of the back if the seats won't tilt forward and if there is a fire, forget it.

There are rare factory RS with rear seats. The front are sport seats not the Recaro buckets simply for the reason given above regarding escape.
Piers (Roygarth) has one. Personally I feel it defeats the purpose of the RS but having said that mine is not the "lightweight" as it has a few things that add weight. You might ask H&S's Thomas to find one for you if you are serious.

One thing you might want to think about

with the lack of soundproof anf insulation back there..it IS hot back there..I dont know if you want to put your child in that situation.
I have put small adults in the back and it is hot....

You don't have rear seats! I wouldn't dream of anyone sitting in the car w/o seat belts. I presume it is not legal even where you live. My excuse for not getting anyone in the rear is my half cage which virtually prevents access.

Harry,
In most or all states here, I don't think seatbelts are required for back seat riders. At least they're not required in the states I've lived in. If it is, I've never heard of it being enforced.

Since Porsche offers a kit to convert cars with rear seats to rear seat delete or storage box then I would assume the reverse can be fitted.

Actually, it appears that some of the welded fittings to fit a rear seat may be missing. So it's not necessarily a two way street.

As RS man mentioned there were a few (i.e VERY few) "Touring" specification cars made with folding sports seats (instead of buckets) and rear seat mounts/belts.

When I got my 993 RSR in 1995 the other car my dealer had ordered was for a family guy and he had ordered that specification.

Fongster!!! Fongster!!! Fongster!!!

An RS and Golf clubs are mutually exclusive. It is the first statement in the owner's manual.

Just wait til you get nailed by a Big Bertha during an accident!
