Another LWF question
I am installing a LWF setup and I am to the point of mating the transmission with the engine to no avail. It just wont go, it keeps getting stuck on the ring gear and wont slide into the bellhousing. So after takeing everthing apart to see whats up I was right, the ring gear is too big and wont fit into the bellhousing.. Any help would be most appreciated..

did you use the clutch alignment tool? if it's not aligned, it won't go back together. also, IIRC, there are different lenght/size thingys that bolt to the tranny that the shaft comes thru, if yours is too large or too long, it could be getting in the way (get your mind out of the gutter, I was talking about the part on the tranny)

I did use a line up tool, Are there different size ring gears? I took everthing apart and stuck the ring gear into the bell housing but the diameter is to big forit to go in and spin freely.

This a strange one indeed. Especially since Porsche bell housing diameters are very similar from the 914 to 993, not sure about the water cooled 911's. Could you post some pics?

Is the starter motor still attached to your transmission or did you pull it off to help mate the engine and tranny? What is the part number on the ring gear?

I've never seen this before. I don't think they even make different size ring gears. When the ring gear is on the flywheel, the overall diameter should be pretty much the same as the teeth on the flywheel. It is a very close fit for getting the bell housing over the LWF assembly. Do you have any pics of the assembly on the motor????

I dropped the engine and transmission and the starter is pulled so everthing is out in the open.
there is no part number on the ring gear but the invoice says its a 964.114.143.31 and the flywheel is a 964.102.239.31... I will take some pictures in the morning

Three Wheelin'
Hi Markc123,
the part numbers you give are the same as the one I installed a few weeks ago. So if the parts correspond to the bill, there shouldn't be a problem.
The clutch alignment tool has no effect on the flywheel and the starter ring. If I were you, I would have a try to fit the tranny with the engine with only the flywheel and the ring installed. If it works, then the fault would be on the clutch centering.
I post some picts of my parts in case this would help.
Keep us informed.
