Default Test Drove the New GT3 today

I went to RutSaCk Porsche today at Pasedena and drove the GT3. Nice looking car loaded with alot of stuff I didnt want but just to get the idea. THe first thing you notice is the clutch is heavier, but no big deal The other thing I noticed is no matter where you drive it , its very difficult to get to the upper RPMS on a city street. How do you wind the thing out around the ROse Bowl and the 210? The car sounds like your sitting inside a drum without the soundproofing
and the motor sounded sweet. At full throttle at the upper RPMS it feels as though it has almost as much power as a TT but not quite. The steering is sharp and precise. I expected to get out with my heart singing and my socks on fire but it
didnt happen. Its a sweet car alright but I dont know if its worth the swap. Not so bad that I shut the idea down totally, but not good enough for me to want it NOW.
It doesnt handle THAT much better than my TT with the PSS9's and the sway bars and corner balance. But I heard the GT3 doesnt not come set up out of the box.
I heard you have to take them in to get them set up properly.

Decisions Decisions! Sheeesh.

If it makes any difference, I think your TT is a better looking car than the GT3. You need to drive one again and if your impressions are the same, keep your beautiful TT.

Try hooking up with 4carl in Santa Barbara. You can swap cars with him and hammer through the hills behond Ojai. I am definitely in the camp that you should keep your TT but I also want you to give the GT3 a complete look. After all, if you are going to track the GT3, who cares if you can't wind it out on the street/freeway, etc?

Paul, The drive didn't make the decision for you? What about the little voice saying "keep the tt. Keep the tt"?

Paul, you need a GT2

I'll be at LS on 1/31 as well, with hopefully the radical.

To be fair, the GT3 was bone stock and probably not broken in yet? Plus you're right, your TT is already dialed in to your preferences, the GT3 is still raw canvas.

Hey Paul,

This is my experience with my GT3 and 993 RS back to back...its more of an interior comparison so if it matters to you, this is what I think makes a difference between the two cars...

Interior

being right hand drive, the 993 may be alittle different from the lhd cars you are familar with here in the US
The biggest note about the 993RS vs the GT3 is the pedal location The floor mounted on the 993 offsets to the middle of the car and often more than not, I find myself at an angle in the car. Its something weird but it doenst bother me.

The dash material of the 993 seems to have aged very well compared to the plastic tacky dash of the GT3, thus I ordered the partial leather. I still drive this out at night and would like it to be "presentable"

Clutch and Shifter
The 993RS has a cable shifter linkage which has broken or come lose a few times. An issue with an older car. Gearshifts are positive but not as nice as compared to the GT3
Clutch engagement on the RS(maybe due to the offset pedals) dont feel as nice as the GT3's. I like the GT's engagement point where it feels perfect at any rpm. RS is old, thus maybe there are some wear and tear issues thus affecting my opinion on the clutch

Steering
The RS has one of the nicest feedback on any street car that I have ever driven. It talks to you and communicates like no others, GT3 is still a virgin, no comments.

Overall interior feel and ergonomics

993RS feels like its a smaller car and sits lower, its raw and very very loud inside. The visibility on the 993s seems to be slightly better with A pillar (or lack thereof ) Less room in the 993 too(or have I put on too much weight since summer?)
996s are very well built and this I think woud make a great street/track car.
I have not much miles on it yet, thus I wont comment too much. Although my last drive in a 996C2 was good.
