Supercharger or Euro gearbox?

For the sake of discussion, if one were to consider these two mods, I am wondering if the increased torque from the S/C makes up for the US gear spacing, or is the Euro box still more fun to drive.
I suspect the consensus is that the S/C is a faster car, but the Euro gearbox mod is ultimately more reliable and trackable (no flames SC guys) but putting that aside, any other thoughts?

Other things I would consider in making the choice are: resale value, reliability, smog/emissions, servicing, wear and tear.
I personally think that the SC option is a lot of bang for the buck vs. turbocharging or engine mods...but with the gearbox you still have a car that any Porsche mechanic can work on, have no issues with smog, less engine wear and tear, less complexity in installation and would probably be more positively regarded by future purchaser. Or you can sell it to other Rennlisters - I'm sure there are many on the board that would be interested.

Porsche Red Book says:
USA G50/20
RoW G50/21
These gearboxes are basically the same, except small differences in gearing ratios (caused by gaz guzzler laws).
Porsche Performance handbook says that euro gearset is better on the track, no "flat spots" between gears.
Because of improved torque, US gearing is actually more usable after installing supercharger. My personal opinion indeed.

I have a friend who put a S/C in his 911SC. What a disaster and PITA! The reliability was terrible. When it ran, it ran like a scalded dog. But the design and installation were a continual "work in progress". Should I condemn all S/C because of this? Probably not. But remember that you are putting a lot more strain on the engine internals. Without beefing up the internals, major increase in power means a decrease in life.
I recently made the gearbox change because I had to make a simple repair in the gearbox, For no additional labor, I was able to regear 3-6 gears. The difference is truly amazing. The car is more responsive and more fun to drive. The changes are 100% Porsche Motorsport Parts.
Neither mod is inexpensive. My gearbox mod was $4000 over the cost of the repair. Throw in a RS LWF group and add another $1450. As I intend to keep this car idefinitely, I'm not trying to amortize the costs. It's a toy, not an investment. However, come resale time, I'm sure that a "C4S With Clubsport Gearbox" with 100% Porsche parts will be easier to sell than some aftermarket tuner's S/C. Will I recover the costs? Absolutley not! I will have to write the costs off as providing a "bigger grin factor".
Good luck with whatever direction you choose.

my fear with aftermarket supercharging (or aftermarket turbocharging) is being aware of the detonation, and keeping it under control. As we all know, detonation will kill an engine quickly.
We also know more boost is more power. How well can we control ourselves from adding more and more boost? It would be hard for me to leave it alone, I admit it.
When I was younger with NOS and muscle cars, it was the same thing, larger jets, larger jets is all I heard myself saying. Its VERY addicting!
I realize that just about all cars within the last 12 or so years have knock detection built in their ecu programs etc, but, is there enough retard and detonation prevention?
I would regear your gearbox instead of s/charging IMHO.
At least the smog people dont check what gear ratios you have, SSSHHHHHH

If I had a choice between a supercharged 993 or a euro geared 993 for a week, lets see
...0 to 60 in 4.7 sec, 1/4 mile in the high 12's, 300 + WHP, torque, torque, torque.....the SC definitely wins the fun to drive challenge any day(Ok, except for a day at the track
).

Graham, those stats. were taken from european car's March 2001 issue after their test drive of TPC's MY95 supercharged 993. However, I've also read (in support of ICON's claim) that a TPC supercharged 993 will beat a stock 993 TT from 0 to 60 and up to as much as 100 MPH where the TT takes over on the top end (Not bad for a $6000 mod). BTW, no association with TPC....
