Wiring Harness numbers
Just got back from the dealership and my 96 C4 IS with a bad wiring harness. There are 7 different part numbers that NEED to be replaced.
993.607.016.00
993.607.016.01
993.607.016.04
993.607.016.05
993.607.016.06
993.607.016.07
993.607.016.08
993.607.016.80
If the part numbers are not readable, it must be replaced. You can find the part numbers from the relay carrier box.(black box in the left side of the engine bay).
I was also told that 2 days are needed for replacement, that there is no need to drop the engine but the top part of the engine needs to be removed to replace the harness.
993.607.016.00
993.607.016.01
993.607.016.04
993.607.016.05
993.607.016.06
993.607.016.07
993.607.016.08
993.607.016.80

KC, you will only have one of those, not all 7. They are all part numbers for the engine wiring harness, for different iterations of the car. The final digit differentiates between ’95 and ’96, USA and ROW, turbo and NA, etc. Check this recent thread for more details on this:

Guys, I finally have the complete Recall notice as issued by PCNA - its 36 pages for the NA and 30 for the Turbo.
I obviously have not had time to truly read it (the majority of the bulletin is the repair procedure with pictures), but some initial thoughts follow:
1995-1996 cars are affected both Turbo and NA
I don't have time to write the vin numbers down here, but I will be working on updating my site tonight with this information and will post a new thread or topic once I have completed the analysis. Suffice to say that to me it looks like all North American 1995 cars are affected and the first 2000 1996 cars. AS for Turbo, 1996 serial number 5065-5924 (USA) and 5067-5895 (Canada) serial numbers are affected.
The truly interesting part to me is the part humber alluded to in the original post in this thread. The TSB says the following part numbers are bad:
993.607.016.00
.01
.04
.05
.06
.07
.08
.80
The part I don't like about this is that my replaced harness (build date of 2000) ends in .05. The language of the test says:
[quote]check the part number of the wiring harness. The part number is affixxed to the wiring harness in the relay carrier in the engine compartment. If one of the following part numbers has been printed on the wiring harness or if the part numbers can no longer be read, the wiring harness must be replaced.

So if I have to have another harness installed instead of getting reimbursed for the one I have already installed, I will be pissed. I hope they aren't this narrow minded. Only time will tell.
Look for more soon.

I can't help on this one. I won't know myself until I take it in to the dealer and I'm not doing it anytime in the next month since I am getting other waranty work done that I don't want to interfere with.
I have re-read the bulletin, and it calls for the new harness to be part number: 993.607.016.15
The only thing I can think of is that the dealer notices the build date of the new harness and the -2A at the end of the part number and recognizes it as a 'new'harness.

I would think that it is good, and you would fall into the reimbursement program for people who’ve already replaced their harnesses. Apparently, you still need to take your car to a dealer, who will certify that your harness has been replaced. Next, you send this certification, and the receipts for your replacement, to Porsche. Check this thread for more details:

For your reference, I just checked my '96 Coupe that was built not too much later then the cut-off (last for VIN 2577) and it has the 993.607.016.15 harness. So they haven't changed the harness since then...
I wonder if the .05-2A harness's are the revised version for the '95 model year only? Looking at the picture of your old harness from your website and comparing it to the schematic on the harness notice it looks like the older harness doesn't have connector #12 and #13. Since these are "switch-over valve" connectors, they may be just for Varioram and thus Porsche might have decided to only have a single replacment harness for both model years...
Either way, hopefully the .05-2A is the actually improved model for you and those that have already replaced your own harness's don't have to do it again.

When you folks checked the wiring harness number, was your number handwritten?
I just checked my harness part number and it has the .15 at the end, but it was handwritten and not machine stamped. Anybody else with the same situation?
BTW, I've got a '97MY C4S built in late '96. I was just checking to be totally sure I didn't fall into the VIN range.
