Question Rear Main Seal

Just had my 100k km (63k mile) service at the Porsche dealer for my 97 993. They advised "slight weeping" from RMS and that I should keep an eye for obvious oil leaks until next annual service, when they will monitor for any increase in leak. I haven't inspected under the car yet.
Can this be certain without dropping the gearbox? Will it affect clutch etc ?
Thanks for any comments,

If the leak gets worse, which they usually do over time, it can saturate the clutch disk and cause slipping. I really doesnt matter which seal it is since the same work has to happen to replace either seal (or both).

Just keep an eye on it and note any change..

Thanks chris, there is also slight weeping from both timing chain covers. Does the engine have to come out for both issues?

If your car is a C2, then technically you can just drop the trans and gain access to the RMS and GBX input shaft seal, but if it were me, I would drop the whole shebang(sp?) and take care of it all at once

I don't know about the RMS, but I've heard you can do the timing chain covers without dropping the engine. But still, it'll take 10-15 hours AFAIK.

p.s. congrats. This is the 1st time i've ever heard of an RMS leak on the 993 forum. I guess you're lucky, in a bad kinda way.

When I had my clutch replaced recently we looked at the RMS. My mechanic said it was not leaking, but looked a little damp. I had him replace it, might as well since we were in there. I bet it would be a long time before it would leak. I had the work done at 44k miles.

Sorry for your misfortune, but it shouldn't be that expensive. My clutch including RMS was $2K at the dealer.

Being a 993 I had my doubts, hence my post. I also have slight weeping at the base of both timing chain covers, otherwise engine is spotless, including around cylinders.
