Question Front Plate bracket

In NJ we are 'required' to drive with a front license plate. Since mine 95 993 Cab is used as a daily driver (almost a daily driver), I do have a plate installed.
I am noticing that it is extremely loose, cab be pulled off my hand, only held on by clips which expand when screws are put in and connects to bumper thru square holes.
Easy solution is to remove plate and put 'bumperplugs', but risk being pulled over. Is there a more secure way to secure plate frame to bumper? Quick fix possibly.

We have the same front plate requirement in Kalifornia. I've gone ahead and just replaced my plate with BumperPlugs and decided to take the risk of being pulled over. It has not happened since I got the car a year ago.

I hate destroying the lines of the front bumper, first with the bumpererretes, and then with a license plate.. Just my $0.02.

When I bought my car, the front plate was not installed as the bracket had been damaged (like the bumper). I got rid of those ugly bumperettes by replacing the bumper with the Euro turbo bumper cover (thanks to Gert) and put on a new bracket from Performance ($50). The new bracket is a secure fit.

Tom,
Can you provide a pic of your car with the new bumper and cost from gert, as well as cost to paint.
I was looking into having front bumper / lower spoiler repainted.
Thanks

Virginia also requires front plates. The bracket for my front plate has to be retightened about every 3 months or so. This is a minor hassle since it of course requires the removal and re-installation of the plate itself.

I'll take a picture this weekend if it's sunny and I get a chance. I'm very happy with the look of the Euro style and like the turbo front better than the stock too. (One of my quotes for replacement came from a porsche dealer who insisted that the turbo front bumper cover would not fit ... but I knew better thanks to Rennlist - thanks guys! )

I did not get a separate price for the front (I also replaced the rear with the Euro style too). I'm sure Gert would be happy to provide the cost. He did a great job in providing all the parts required and quick shipping. His prices were significantly less than 2 quotes I got for the US bumper covers ($2000 Euro, $3000 USA).

The most difficult part was finding a good paint & body shop willing to paint parts I supplied. I paid about $1300 for painting of front and back with installation. My back-up plan was to find someone to paint and do the install myself using the DIY info from Robin's site.

We have thousands of customers in states that require front plates.

Most of them report few if any problems with getting pulled over for the plate violation. If they are cited, it is typically an add-on for a speeding violation. The plugs are removable and reusable, so the few who have had to, simply remove the plugs, install the plate, go to the police dept and get cleared, pay a small fix-it ticket, go home and reinstall the plugs!

Simple as that.

Plug 'em!

At an open house one of our PCA members sponsored, the host's dog ran between the parked cars and ripped my front plate bracket clean off the car. However, in the process, the front bumper incurred a 2 inch long scratch (gouge)around the area of one of the mounting holes. Needless to say, the holes were also slightly enlarged.

When I was younger, and let things like this get to me, I would have pointed it out to the host and sought compensation for having the cover repaired or replaced. As an older, wiser owner, who values the friendship of the host, I decided to let it slide. Although I could not fix the scratch, I was able to get the bracket to securely mount by purchasing 2 new mounting plugs and installing them. To compensate for the slightly enlarged holes,I placed a small piece of racer's tape (that just happens to match my Arena Red)over the holes, then cut a "X" slit in the tape at the hole location. Pushing the new mounting plugs in place, they mounted more securely than new. When the bracket and plate are installed, you can't see the scratch. I now am little more careful when parking at group functions where dogs and small children are running free.

Life's too short to get worked up over these trivial items that coem your way.

Carmen;

FYI, I recently purchased a new Euro turbo bumper for my C4S, Peter @ Rennspeed sold it to me for $750.00 shipping was $75.00. He was listing them in the classified. What I found that was interesting was that Porsche listed the euro white turn signal as a 3rd brake lite as a discription. Maybe the only way to get it in the country. I paid a little over $54.00 each.

Carmen:

I live in NJ. I used the bumperplugs and mounted the plate on the passenger visor.

Here's what the NJ DMV manual says:

At registration, you will receive two license plates (one for trailers, motorized bicycles and motorcycles). Attach one plate to the front and another to the rear of the car, at least 12 inches, but less than 48 inches above the ground. Both plates must be clean and visible. The rear plate must be
lighted so it shows from 50 feet at night, even with reflectorized plates. Using license plate holders that obscure or conceal any lettering on the license plate is a violation with a fine of up to $100, up to $200 for habitual offenders.

This info can be found here:

That's great to hear that you can get away with only the back license plate in CA...we will be moving to CA from PA next summer (hopefully) and my only regret was contemplating having to ruin my front bumper cover with a plate...I also completed the euro turbo bumper cover conversion this summer and added the turbo s air ducts and clear side signals...it looks absolutely awesome...I also have the turbo s front and reat spoilers so it looks like a euro turbo s sans rear fender scoops...I would encourage anybody to make the conversion...cost me about 3k altogether (bumper cover, new front spoiler, air ducts, clear side signals, painting and installing)...ah, the price of egoistic indulgence
