Has anyone painted their rotor's hats gray to refresh that nice factory look? What paint do you use? Susprisingly, I can't find any specifics in the archives.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I haven't painted them before, but I've had them stripped and plated with zinc dichromate ("yellow zink plating"). Very nice, and resists rust. I think it cost me $40 for a set of 4. Yes, it plates the rotor surface too, but this quickly wears away.

I picked up a can of standard primer gray spray paint for this purpose. Havent actually tried it yet, but since primer gray is a flat type of paint, I fear brake dust will stain the gray. I'll give it a shot (pun intended)

Luis A. Painted mine about a year ago when I replaced my rotors. I used Dupli-color Gray Engine Primer DE1612 which has a 500 degree factor. It looks great, matches the Porsche color and can be purchased at the local Checker Auto store

Randy,
Did you have to prepare the surface prior to apply the paint? Also having never seen the back of these rotors how is the hat mounted to the rotor? Thanks

Tony..To prep the hats I used lacquer thinner and clean cloths and just rubbed them clean (remember they were new with just oil residue on them). My rotors and hats were one piece (see Dave's picture above). I let the paint overspray go everywhere and just cleaned the rotor surface with the thinner rags. It worked like a charm!

Just a reminder, don't worry about getting paint or coatings on the rotor surface as the pads will wear it out. The whole reason to paint or plate rotors is to keep them from rusting the non wear areas. Silver looks good!
