* 993 Varioram Unichip??
I cannot seem to nail down whether the Unichip system is available for the 993 Varioram with disabled drive block.
No answer when I called http://www.unichip.us/ today.
The local dyno shop does the install and says he can do it: ( http://www.carbconn.com/ )
Yet I've been told otherwise.
Anyone know the definitive answer? I don't see why it can't be done. I believe there is room for improvement on the GIAC reflash - and the Unichip can be customized on the spot -

I would agree with graham_mitchell. It piggybacks on top of the existing ecu and intercepts and modifies the signals according to the way the tuner has programmed the module.
I just had one put in my '96 C4S about a month ago and the tuner was able to get +5 to +18 HP depending on the RPM according to the dyno.
Unichip is supposed to be coming out with a new chip in 2005 which responds more quickly to the signals from the ecu and the tuner said he should be able to squeeze a few more HP with that module when it's available.
Overall, I would say that the difference is 'seat-of-the-pants' noticeable but not dramatic. My car seems to pull harder and longer than it used to. In other words, it just seems to feel better or more comfortable overall under moderate to hard acceleration where before it seemed a bit strained.
I would also make sure your tuner has done a number of Unichip installs on Porsches, particularly the 993's. My tuner only works on Porsches and his shop has been around for 20+ years with a good reputation.
Cheers and good luck with your purchase.
