Default Help...993 shut down while driving

Car (1996 20,xxx miles) sat for a month (battery maintainer plugged in). Started reluctantly, stalled once. let it sit a few minutes, started reluctantly again and seemed to be running smooth. Took off slowly, less than 3000 rpm. about one-half mile, shut down. Wouldn't start. Turns over well. Feels like its not getting fuel...any suggestions?

Hi MGA,

if you have a spare DME relay, this is what I would try first. Easy and quick to change.

I think there is a way to by pass the relay to allow you to go back home, but I don't remember how to proceed! Checking in 911& Porsche world, I know they talked about it a few month ago...

Wonder if the DME relay is the same as any other not-do-critical relays used in the relay box. In other words, could the a/c ran relay be swapped, just to get him home?

Or, if you can get the relay cover off and lightly clean the contacts? Just a thought..

Well the 911 PW is the june 2004 issue. They show a picture of the relay socket holes to be bridged with paperclip. Place the paperclip between holes 30,87, and 87b of the socket if you have flat pin relay or 86,87, and 87b if you have a round pin relay. And they stress that ignition is off before doing it! If the relay was faulty, the engine should start!

Good luck!

Best bet is buy one and leave it in your glove box. The sucker will never dare quit after that!!

Merry Christmas to all. You too JP.
