Jonathan, I haven't had that "plastic" problem either. Obviously it's a very small sample size and far too small to generalize, but I can't help noticing that the three cars mentioned here that rattle are late model 993s; one '97 and two '98s, and all are S models. Any chance the build quality deteriorated in the later years as Porsche started reaching ever more for that last $.01 of profit, Wendelin?

I understand your reluctance to start taking things apart, but rattles drive me nuts; with a little luck, it'll go back together better -- no more rattles -- than it is now. Shortly after I bought my car, it developed a nasty rattle in the rear. I couldn't help myself -- I dove right in and took off the rear parcel shelf and started looking around. The rear wiper mount was loose, so I simply tightened it. No rattles since. Rattles would make me feel that the car isn't the quality item I believe it is. I'm fairly confident in saying that most 993s stay very solid and rattle-free over many years and miles.

I know this is bit of a dated posting but I am just trading in my 2006 997 C2S for a 1997 993 cab. I wouldn't call it trading down but more trading over for a more solid, more emotive car. I'll keep you post in a month on how the experiences compare. And I love the 997 with it's PCCB etc... but oh those metal doors and rawness of of the 993's exhaust... Ah... Grrrr....

i think it is safe to say that a 993 owner would need to get into a 997 GT3 to be happy with the switch.....
