DME Relay (was:No Start -- FIXED!)
I really don't think it was water related. That car gets washed and hosed off fairly frequently. I'm also in complete denial that it's harness related.
Since the relay was updated to a 993 number, I assume those who work for Porsche's "Secrets That Will Die With Us Dept." know the real story. Same people know why our windshields rattle, the '95 harnesses disintegrate, the slave cylinders fail, etc., etc.
Can we tie it to a mileage figure? Mine had 42,000

Mine went bad on my 97 model with 15K miles. Had the 944 part no. I was at the track at the time and a couple people had this relay and it had the 944 part no. and they didn't work either, so I used a jumper wire and had a guy that owns a shop bring one to the track with him.

Out of curiosity, I disassembled the failed relay and found two problems. The coil which pulls in the fuel pump contact had discolored windings (signs of overheating). More interesting than that was discovering a loose contact point on the relay itself. This contact had its rivit come loose allowing it to make an intermittent connection with its associated copper strip. I believe this may have caused the intermittent starting and rough running problems up until the time the relay coil failed completely.
I know this topic is very old but i have the exact same problem.
After a nights sleep the car won't start. Looked at the DME relais and it was burnt on one contact.
Replaced it with a new relais but still the same problem. The fuseboard itself also looks a little burnt.
any advise ?
