Question WTK: Strut Brace install - Carpet won't fit !

Any suggestions to getting my carpet to fit after installing a FVD lightweight aluminum strut brace?

Due to the shock towers being under the carpet, I chose mount the brace under the carpet, now the snaps are about 1.5" apart. Will it fit if I remove it entirely, warm it up (it's 0 degrees in Denver) and re-install it? Or will I need to cut out a section for the brace mounts at the shock tower and install the brace on top of the carpet. I've seen the brace over the carpet in several pictures, but it flattened the pocket, which I would like to use.
Any suggestions? chris.ketchum@att.net

Stuff... soft socket, wheel lock socket key, jack pad(hockey puck), towles, mechanix gloves, small spray bottles of 303 Protectant, McGuires #218 (Instant Detailer), etc.

Hi Chris,

Any automotive trim shop will be able to do a quick and very neat job on your carpet, just putting cuts in it where the brace ends pass through and trimming the edges of the cuts in the same way as the edges of the carpet. It's fast, cheap and it gives a very nice looking install (at least it does with my CarGraphics brace )

If it is the same as the factory bar, it should fit under the carpet. The mounting bracket is L shaped. If installed backwards, the bar is too far forward and, I suspect, the carpet will not fit.

Chris,

Like Kim and Mark, I have the factory brace, and it fits very well under the carpet without any modifications. It may be a good alternative if the FVD brace won't fit without cutting the carpet.

Thank you all. I tried stretching the carpet a bit, which allowed all snaps to fasten, although tightly. I may have to have the carpet cut as suggested. And yes, it would look rather nice. That's the reason I purchased the FVD in the first place, because it looks similar to the factory or Andial brace, except the brackets have a smoother radius.
Check it out.

Thank you all for your help. ChrisK

Chris,

Yes a couple small cuts in the carpet do the trick.

I have the FVD brace and have fitted it trough a couple of small cuts made in the carpet.

IMHO it looks great when you open up the trunk, especially with the FVD Motorsports sticker in the centre.

So good in fact, if I had the factory brace I'd want to fit it this way as well.

Dayton,

Help us out here what does this sticker look like? It may go well with my new FVD strut brace

Sorry about the poor quality of my picture, I was trying to get it below the 180kb limit.

The sticker is essentially FVD's 911 outline symbol with "Motorsport" written in italic script underneath. It's a cut out design so there is no background to spoil the effect.

Get the dealer to bundle a sticker as part of the deal, mine did.
