JRG, Talk to the general manager of that local porsche shop(is it a dealership) and tell him that it was not their place to assume problems. They are paid for PPI which just an inspection and their job is to tell the buyer what they found, not what they think is gonna happen with the car. They were not hired to be a fortune teller! They were hired to find facts.

JR. I think the shop was out of line. Its not their place to opine about the choice a person makes regarding brands or models. They are, however, morally obligated to do a fair evaluation of the particular car brought to them. If that car, yours in this case, has any of these issues they note them on the inspection report. When asked about the items they can quote repair costs. I think it is fair for them to mention these are known issues but, they should also have the wisdom of experience to know not all cars have any of these problems and those that do are in the minority.
From my perspective these guys are not very knowledgeable about this model. Which makes me wonder what on earth are doing repairing Porsches in the first place. Most p-car mechanics will tell you unequioically that the 993 was the best car Porsche ever built.
In layman's terms; The buyer was an uninform idiot. His loss I'm sure.
A cab in LA. Its gonna move.

You gotta be kidding!
How about this for a future event?
Car Buyer:
"Mr. PPI shop owner, my 993 which you PPI'ed last month now needs a valve job
and won't pass an emissions test. As an informed/knowledgeable Porsche shop,
you should have disclosed to me the potential 993 problems which may not have
been detected during a PPI. Right?"
Shop Owner:
"You didn't ask about 'em."
Guess whether the car buyer will use or recommend the shop for a PPI or Porsche
service in the future.
Bottomline: Besides a responsibility to the potential buyer, the shop owner must maintain his shop's reputation which would get "hammered", if he didn't fully inform the buyer.

It really depends on the tone the shop used with the potential buyer. If it was in line with, "These are some of the proplems that a few of these cars have and you should ask the owner before we take your $," then the buyer wasn't serious in the first place. If it was. "All 993s have these problems sooner or later so you better find out," then IMHO it was completely out of line.

I read the original post to say the dealer asked the potential buyer if those things have happened or show those symptoms, not that they said those things WOULD happen.
