Hey Lauren,
I guess what I would expect from a good shop is to perform the PPI and inform the perspective buyer of the results, good or bad. I don't expect them to preemptively darken the horizon by suggesting that ALL 993's have these problems. By asking those questions of the buyer, the shop set a skeptical tone that my wonderful cab must be subject to those same faults. Well mine has never shown a CE fault, or any of those other possibilities.

And as for appropriateness, those questions are definitely appropriate for the seller, how would the perspective buyer know? You e-bay comment is inappropriate.

And what would you expect, as a buyer, from a good shop when setting up a PPI?
The questions asked by the shop were very appropriate for 993s, as many of
the problematic 993 repairs can be very costly. If you're concerned about PPI
challenges from good Porsche shops, advertise on eBay.

John,
Find another shop for PPI. No sweat, you will find another buyer... Spring is around the corner.

JR,

I agree with Phil - sounds like a combination of an poorly educated or less than enthusiastic buyer and a shop tech with an axe to grind. There are plenty of buyers out there that you don't have to educate.

As usual, Phil's answer is priceless. Sounds like the shop guy reads too much Rennlist postings about all those issues. Posted, as we know, by the unfortunate few who have them and come here for the answers. And spends not enough time doing PPIs to know the real incidence of those issues without mis-educating a prospective buyer.

He should just take the PPI money, do the PPI, and report the results of that car. Not pontificate about the issues affecting the total 993 poulation, about which he appears to know not much.

Great photo Alan. Do you know the era and what they were doing? Or was it a film?

Great photo as usual Alan! I thought it might be a witch hunt.

Re: the PPI, I think they are wise to ask such questions. I think your potential buyer is the "ignorance is bliss" type.

Mr. JR Gordon, Sr., sir . . . I would not let it get your goat or read in too much ill sprited intent. Just too many variables, who knows how all was communicated between prospective owner and shop. Bottom line, when someone wants your car, they will find it and purchase it. It is in beautiful shape and well cared for. Most of those questions would seem kind of obvious to any new car purchaser with a consumer reports check list, other than CEL . . . But smoke? drips/leaks? clutch still good? how does the tranny feel? Ok . . . fair game.

Time is money. IMHO, this guy was not really an interested buyer and I think it much better that he bailed out on you now than 80% of the way through the courting process, after the PPI, but just as he gives you the, "Well, let me think about it and call you." routine. You know how much energy/drama can surround buying and selling a car. You spent minimal time and aggravation. I have no fear your white beauty will go to a nice and interested home. It is in great shape and as ASG mentioned, spring is just around the corner and demand and prices will both start going up.

Also, the later you start lapping me in your next . . . trubo charged . . . concoction, if that's what it is to be, the better! My arm aches enough from waving all you guys by once!
