See http://www.califcars.com/cardtl.cfm?stockid=20408 [pastel yellow 993 cab]

I have no idea how many were made in this color.

According to the book "Porsche 911 road cars" the color you describe was a special order from the works department and it was called "champagne yellow".
So I guess it is pretty rare...
Very cheap price on that car by the way...I wonder what's wrong with it!

Actually... Pastel Yellow was a standard color on that car. No charge.

In 1997 a good pal of mine bought a Pastel Yellow coupe for he & his wife. We went to the dealership in Chicago & I drove it home. We had a choice of any color (the dealer must have had twenty 1997 993 coupes on the lot). He did not want to pay extra for paint, so he chose the Pastel Yellow. Dealer said it was (and I quote) "a hot color." Later we both admitted that our favorite out of the bunch was Zenith Blue.

Porsche saw fit to delete Pastel Yellow from their standard color line up shortly thereafter.

I always thought it was a great Boxster color too.

It looks super on that car in the ad above (way cheap cab).

The reason why the pastel yellow cab is cheap is that it has 126,000 miles - I'm not sure if that was deleted from the website sometime along the way.

It was my understanding that pastel yellow was replaced by "speed" yellow (which is darker), around 1999 or so.

Everything if it is being sold by California Cars.

Not a good place to buy a porsche. My curiousity brought me out there a couple of years ago. Their stupidity and lying sent me back.

I'm pretty sure SY has been offered for quite a while, as is evidenced by my 1995 SY Carrera.

EJ - I'll defer to your expertise - maybe speed yellow was an option and pastel yellow was the "standard" yellow on 911s, until 1999 or so?

I say this because I've seen a number of 1997-1998 Boxsters in pastel yellow, and a number of 1999 and up Boxsters in speed yellow, but no post-1998 Boxsters in pastel yellow.

Also, see this listing for a 1990 964 cab in "solar" yellow/blue interior - it references the paint/interior package being a "special option".

For the 993:

1995: Speed yellow is a standard color
1996: Same as above
1997: Pastel yellow is a standard color & Speed yellow is a $2955 option
1998: Same as 1997

Speed yellow is back as a standard color on the 1999 996.

Viken, how far back does speed yellow go? What year was the first year of it's availability?

Thanx,

E. J.

I know the fellow Michael B. refers. Correct my memory Michael, but ddin't Brian have trouble finding a buyer for this "hot color" when it came time to sell? From what I recall, I would steer clear of this unless it was exactly what I would want to keep for a long time.

Just my $.02, but for free.

Fred,

You are 100% correct.

But hey, I liked it...

Brian had silver on the brain though, and he could never get over that he let his wife sway his color choice like she did.

The car was doomed from day one because of that. I knew he would sell it in around a year (what does he keep for more than a year anyhow?).

The biggest problem was that he kept seeing your Arena Red car. How could ANYTHING look good next to yours! Then you go and add those SuperCup wheels, the brake ducts, and Gert tips, the close ratio trans...

No fair man!

Hope to see you Saturday at breakFAST Fred.
