Good advice above-keep the jack in the car. BTW-my wife always tells me that the best way to make my car lighter is to cut back on the beer drinking. <img border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" title="" src="graemlins/drink.gif" />

On my car, Corvette, it came with heavy and loud RunFlats. I ditched those in favor of conventional tires... only problem is, no spare!
I considered the options, and believe the FixAFlat stuff can damage your wheels. I had a case where I used a can of that stuff on omy old car and it left this sticky gunk all over the inside of the wheel. I could never get that wheel properly balanced ever again. So fix-a-flat? never again.
What I do now is carry a plug kit, a battery powered air compressor and a low profile aluminum jack (37 lbs) with me on long trips. On shorter trips, I make do w/ the cell phone and roadside assistance.

I've used the stuff once on my old 89 T-bird about 9 years ago. Worked great enough to get me home. No damage to the wheel. The guy at the tire place however just about shot me. I didn't tell him about it, I guess it's potentially explosive in some manner, according to him. Details!
Vinny, you need to read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintence". Looking for brand name BMW handlebar shims, when an old tin can will do.

So how many people have had a flat tire? In almost 30 years of driving, I have never had a flat. Even on my sports cars with aggressive rubber (Pilot Cups, Hoosiers, etc) nothing in over 15 years of driving a lot with these tires on the street. So I only carry a spare in the cars my wife uses (which is just for my safety as I do not think she would ever change a tire).

Yup, gotta flat on my previous brand-new SO2's...got them literally while the tires were breaking in. Side-wall was breached, so tire was hosed and I don't think the run-flat gunk would have worked.
Had to run home on the spare (30miles) and everything worked like a charm. No way would I drive without the spare..
