993 Values by comparison
Just saw this car pop up on ebay and makes me feel good as the owner of a 993. Apparently, the value of 996's, even 2000's are falling below the value of our beloved 993's.
Amazing...

Nota, I think some of the earlier '99s in particular can be pretty problematic cars (see tech section at www.pca.org for some examples), so if it were me I would want to see a build date of March 1999 or later on that car. Just my $.02....

I would think the 996 will fall off 5-10% when the new body style comes out, because it will no longer have the "new" 911 cachet. (I could be wrong though).
The 993's have a timeless look, more so than either the 996 or the 964... I think that in 10 years the 993's will be looked upon more favorably than the 996's, which is why I bought a 993 C4S when there were many 996 C4's available for less money.
One of these days, a low-miles triple-black 993 Turbo S will be mine... SloanCars.com has one for sale, I wonder if he could hold it for me for a decade or so.

I would love to have that, but I don't have the $$$ to afford that as of now, maybe in 5 - 10 years if the price drops to the $40K's.

The car has so many freak'n miles on it I see why it is $39,999. It should have mileage around say 40K or so for that year. 50K extra miles at even a super low .15 a mile equates to a $7500 swing. If the car had 40K miles, in other words, its price would be $47,500 minimum. I rather pay the .15 a mile and have lower miles. I think my point is that is why it is so cheap. It is real easy to misread this as the 2000 values have fallen through the floor. The first several years do get hit hard though. If you are looking for lower depreciation, you are a crazy many to buy a car less than 3 years old.
It is still a very good price, but I think the fact that it does not have a warranty with that kind of mileage maybe factoring in as well. I personally would not buy a 996 with that kind of mileage without being covered. Then again, I am risk adverse when it comes to Porsche Carrera repairs. It also looks fairly stripped other than the sport classic II wheels. Then again, if you are looking to get in to a 996 cab, it is possibly the cheapest I have seen. Also, being that it is a 2000, it has the upgraded soft touch interior plastics and finish that is much nicer than on many of the 99s.
