Any UK readers chipped a '95 993? Any recommendations?

Have you considered the Unichip? I think it can be installed for around £400 and is custom mapped to YOUR engine for that. Best thing is, it can be unplugged and used in your next car There are many thread about both Unichip and normal plug-n-play chips.

PJC,

nope, not chipped mine, but if you want a good place to carry it out for you, and who will give you good advice, try AmD near oxford.
They are porsche & vw/audi tuning specialists.

Cheers,
John.

Hi PJC,

I haven't done it yet but am thinking about it for next year. I have heard very good things about AMD and you may want to check out JZ Machtech who can re-programme your own car's chip. I think that they charge the same sort of money. I'd be interested to know how you get on.

Cheers,

David

Thanks guys - interesting that so far no UK Rennlisters have "owned up" to chipping. I'll give AMD and JZ a call.

OK, I'll own up to an AMD re-map

I had their exhaust end boxes (Milltek) and an active re-map.
Pre re-map my car showed 266bhp @ 6,080 revs and 238lbs/ft @ 5613revs on their rollers, and post re-map 286bhp @6,139 revs and 259lbs/ft @ 5583 revs.
The power and torque plots (which I can't scan ) show solid improvement all the way throught the rev range.
Subjectively the car felt crisper and free'r reving.
IMO it was pretty good value and I wouldn't hestitate to recommend them. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

I'm testing further this weekend, but my 97 VRam recently got 15 bhp and 20 ft lbs over a wide rev range according to AMDs dyno - so I expect great things low flying (as b4) on Sunday ...... I hope de dyno, she don' lie!

'95 different ECU of course ..

Cheers, Maurice

pjc,
how did you get on with the enquiry? I was thinking of chipping my '94 993 with AmD, but the last time I spoke to them they were temporarily not doing any Porsche.

Just a thought, any one knows if the fuel consumption will go up if the driving style stays the same (difficult I know with extra oomph)

I had my car chipped at JZ Machtech 18 months ago. I had the drilled airbox installed at the same time. Car showed 268bhp before and 282 after. Torque increases across the board although most noticeable over 4000 revs.

As with many upgrades, you get used to it quickly and after a while can't tell the difference!

JZ fitted a Roock chip.

Ajit.

Hi Ajit,

What year is your car? I'm assuming that as mine is a 1995 they can remap the chip in the car. I assume that yours is a later car?

Cheers,

David
