Default Steel Valve Stems needed..

Well, after some searching, and reading about a valve-stem group buy on, I think the 944 board, couldn't find anything about a source for steel, valve stems.

Anyone know where I can purchase a set of steel valve stems? Much like the stems for Technology wheels..

Thanks

I presume you are talking about the valve stems that are used on car rims? If so, most hotrod shops carry them as they are a requirement for cars going 11.99 or quicker in the 1/4 mile. They cost about $20 for 4.

Hoosier sells them trackside, you could probably call a distributor and have them sent out. I believe that Tire Rack has them but doesn't advertise, you have to call and ask.

Chris,

The Porsche part # is 993-361-073-00 tire valve stem. They are about $7.50 each from the dealer. These are the ones on my 18" TT wheels.

Any metal valve stem works for the solid spoke wheels. The hollow spokes require a Porsche only stem. I have both if you need some...

What benefits do steel/metal valve stems provide?

Those are not metal valve stems. They are just regular rubber with a metal sleeve on the outside...

Chris,

Be careful as the Porsche Valve stems will work on the Hollow Spokes, but not on the solid spokes. I tried then at one point and they won't work.

I asked Tire rack about valve stems when I was looking for some for my 5 spokes. I was told they do not sell valve stems.

ViperBob, what type of stem would I need to use on MY02 5 spoke wheels? Are they hollow or solid spoke wheels?

Rubber stems can crack under centrifugal force, as I found out in the middle of Utah one summer. Try to buy a performance tire out there!! Thank goodness for Tire Rack and FedX.

On the windbodies in the 80s, Porsche specified supports for the stems on wheels wider than 8 or 9 inches.

I recently had new tires put on my solid spoke wheels and found, like Skip said above, the Porsche steel stems didn't work. However, the rubber valve stems they installed are short and include valve caps with the Porsche crest that extend to the base of the stem preventing any flex. I like 'em.

I would include a pic but am on business out of town.
