Post RSR's vs. Motorsound

Has anyone with the Motorsound factory option switched to Robin's RSR mufflers? I'm interested in the differences, if any. Is there enough difference in sound to make it a worth-while swap?

Burt,
I had my motorsound mufflers "RSR'd" by Robin, and I could not be happier! There is definately an audible difference, worth every penny. Also, the install was a simple swap, that took 1hr tops.
Good luck,
Evan

I put the RSR's on my C2S w/ Motorsound approx. 2 years ago and still have them on.. I could not be happier. The Motorsound lacked the growl and complex, deep voice of the RSR setup. They are maybe 10-15% louder than the Motorsound.. you have to be very careful with the 993 motor and muffler swapping as there is a direct correlation between how loud they are and resonance, something that earlier engines and turbos don't have as an issue. So ask people with the 3.6 engine about resonance with a specific muffler, not just anyone.

Some people are just not bothered by resonance, but it totally spoils the car for me. So what I sought was not a single, low frequency din in the cabin, but an enhancement to the sound of the motor. That's what you'll get with the RSR's, as well as a chance to deal with a real gentleman on the other end in Robin.

Thumbs up

Hi Bert,

I can't talk for the Motorsound mufflers but am hooked on the sound of the RSRs and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my own set from Gert in Belgium. They sound really nice and not too over the top. Certainly the RSR'd Motorsound option is intriguing but, unfortunately, out of my price range.

It's a personal choice so do try to listen to the different mufflers and make your choice. Resonance is definitely an issue with some after-market mufflers and the RSRs appear to suffer little if at all from this problem unlike other mufflers.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Cheers,

David

Yep, done it. The RSR's sound better than the motorsounds, but I think there may be a difference between a motorsound muffler that has been "RSR'd" vs. a standard muffler that has been converted. The non-motorsound version seems to be a bit louder, with a more pronounced gurgle.

Another happy guy...I switched the motorsound muffler on my 96 cab to RSR. Sounds much better (Robin used his audiophile ears) and "seems" to drive a little better too.

Is it still a 6 week turnaround for the mufflers? RSR mufflers will be the 1st thing I do when I find a car.

A few months ago, a few local Porschephiles here in Los Angeles got together for breakfast/drive. We ended up having a "Sound Off" between a Motorsound Pkg vs. RSR muffler (no pkg). The two cars took turns Revving their engines (sweet music). Anyway, the difference was slight. The RSR's are a tad LOWER in pitch. Loudness (db level) was essentially the same.

Personally, if i had Motorsound Pkg, i'd leave it alone, but if no Motorsound pkg, i would definitely get RSR's.

My humble opinion, as a '86 3.2 Carrera owner.
Mike
